Five Ways to Use Your Child’s Halloween Costume Year Round

I have three kids, they like to play dress up on occasion. Mind you, two of my three children are boys, this means dress up to them is more about some doctor, fire man or military dress up type scenario whereas my daughter would prefer a princess or witch type costume. The kids really do enjoy pretend play, every day my home is full with laughter of children giggling while they play pretend MineCraft or other pretend games. Playing dress up with last years Halloween costumes really make for a fun, creative, imaginary play date and that is just what my kids do!

Using Halloween Costumes for Dress Up Play Time

There is nothing cuter than watching my three kiddos chase each other around the home with their funny kid costumes worn over their clothing and hearing; “oh no it’s s shark” or “Yay! I stole the pirates treasure” while the children run a muck having a blast in their prior year costumes. Encouraging a love of imagination by utilizing the prior years Halloween costumes really makes sense, it’s a low cost or virtually no cost way to continue enjoying that one time use costume.

If you have a closet full of old Halloween costumes that you are not sure what to do with, here are five ideas on how to utilize your kids prior year costumes;

  • Host a Play-date Event – Send out invites for your children’s friends to come to a party where they can bring their prior year Halloween Costume for a fun filled day of treats and adventures!
  • Mix & Match Costume Accessories – Your kids don’t fit into last years Halloween costume? No worries, put to use the accessories for a fun filed afternoon of pretend play. You can play too!
  • Put Your Parental Creativity To Use – Mix and match or cut and sew each child’s costume, if they no longer fit into them, make the costume fit the kid, not the kid fit the costume. Have fun seeing what you can turn a pirate and witch costume into with a pair of scissors, needle and thread!
  • Create a Neighborhood Costume Collection Bin & Create a Neighborhood Movie – This is a great way to recycle non-fitting Halloween costumes from your neighborhood. Use the collected costumes as a wardrobe for neighborhood kids to get together for their own movie creation while parents sit and watch the “finale” over popcorn and laughter!
  • Make a Wall of Remembrance – Use boxed frames to memorialize each child’s funniest Halloween costume through out the years, hang this in a family room as you would with their school pictures.

There are so many things you can do with kids costumes these days that you must remember these tips when your children are choosing this years Halloween costume. Remember, life is too short and there is no such thing as too much fun!

What? You Only Have Water in the Cooler? @WATAAH

No …. it’s WAT-AAH! A completely different thing, right? Well yes and no. To the kids, yes. To me, no.

WAT-AAH

The day of my two sons birthday party had arrived and the cases of WAT-AAH! were ready in the cooler with lots of ice to make sure the children and adults at the party were replenished during this hot Summer day. The sun shined down hard on this past Saturday when we hosted a birthday party for the boys. It made all of us sweat and grab for more and more water, but the thing is, WAT-AAH! being the only option in our cooler was not taken by the kids very well … at first.

WAT-AAH at party

Aj and K-man both, almost in unison were like “oh man” when I showed them where they could find drinks for their friends and their own self. I laughed, because I know my boys love WAT-AAH! but given a choice obviously they are children and would much prefer a sugary drink. I firmly believe that the label on the WAT-AAH! is what gets the kids interested and not to mention the way to spell it. While I am not 100% sure how it was meant to be pronounced, WAT-AAH! sounds really appealing to young children when you say it in an “argh matey” type of pirate voice. That is how I was able to get the kids to drink up their WAT-AAH!

drink WAT-AAH

WAT-AAH! became a fun conversational piece because of their label design and the way I pronounced it with my best pirate voice, the kids also pronounce WAT-AAH! in that tone so it was a way to intrigue their friends to take a bottle or two while in attendance at the birthday party. I felt a little like a marketing girl, promoting WAT-AAH! because most parents were asking me about “WAT-AAH! is” and checking out the label. I had a great time promoting this brand during the birthday party because I am convinced it’s worthy of my time to promote. While WAT-AAH! did send me their product for free, and I did disclose that to the party guests, I firmly believe that more parents may start looking for this on our local stores shelves. I know of one local convenience center that sells WAT-AAH! and I was super excited to see it there.  I let the parents know where I had seen this locally and to check it out. It’s such a great way to encourage water drinking with the kiddos!

You can find the locations near you that sell WAT-AAH! so that your kids can feel STRONGAAH today on the WAT-AAH! website. Also be sure to connect with WAT-AAH! on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with their latest fun & news.

The Boys Birthday Party #birthdayparty #raisingboys

For the first time in their five and seven years of living, my sons had their first real birthday party ever this past weekend. Both boys were allowed to invite any friends they wanted and, of course, any that I could find a way to contact as this was Summer break from school. The boys were happy to have friends here for a party, and of course relatives as well. Some relatives I haven’t seen much of in the past, such as my cousin Troy and his girlfriend even arrived!

Boys Birthday Party

I had to rush to the store first thing in the morning, well when I woke up which was closer to 10am, for the ice cream, balloons and while out I decided that punching balloons just had to be at these boys birthday party, for sure! Dollar Tree is like one of the best stores to visit because every single thing in there is $1, okay some things are under $1 but nothing is above $1. A true dollar store. Two bags of punching balloons at $1 per 3 balloon pack were picked up and quickly blown up upon my arrival back home.

Wat-AAH! was the refreshment of choice for this party too, we had a cooler full of drinks for all to enjoy. I had to laugh about serving Wat-AAH! because it’s water, bottled water, well it’s more than just that, it’s Wat-AAH! and the guests had fun laughing at how my kids pronounce it all pirate-ish to their friends and the family. The boys were not impressed at first that all I had in the cooler of ice was bottled wat-aah! but it was all they drank and boy did they drink. It was a pretty hot day with sunshine shining down, so those kiddos needed to stay hydrated and they did.

WAT-AAH

The boys originally wanted me to have two cakes for them, but me not being a great cake maker went to purchase the cakes only to realize they were close to $15 each. Two cakes were not an option, not one bit. Thankfully my sons were able to fight until they agreed come to an agreement on one gold cake with a birthday greeting written on top from the bakery at Market Basket.

The party was a super hit and I am so happy that the boys were able to celebrate their birthdays in a unique way this year; it started with each having one special day alone with their Dad and ended with this amazing party blast of a day!

Mama and her boys

I am now the proud Mom of two boys who are five and seven… boy how time flies!

Planning a Boys Birthday Party in August

I am planning a birthday party for my sons, for the first time ever. These two boys are 2 years and 6 days apart. Having always celebrated with their Dad, myself and maybe my sister and her husband with cake, ice cream and presents, usually the boys do not have any form of a birthday party. This year shall be different, Aj is turning 7 and has made some friends having been in school for K and 1st Grade. Even my little one who is turning 5 has made some friends from being in pre-k this past year. That means, with the lovely world of Facebook, I have connections to parents of children my sons may want to come to a birthday party and so that translates to .. This Mama is planning a combined August birthday party for both of these two boys …

Planning a Boys Birthday Party

Aj is all about having a birthday party, the kid is flat out excited to be turning 7 and to be able to invite friends over. He already started drawing invites to his b-day party to three or four friends without me even having set a date and time in stone yet. I am thinking the birthday party will be August 24th. Aj would like to have chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, prizes for games we can play in our backyard and if a warm day – use a sprinkler.

Now I have to be on the look out for boys birthday party ideas, because in all reality this truly IS my first time planning a boys birthday party. In October, I have my daughter but that is relatively easy (or at least used to be)…

Next, K-man is not too impressed about idea of a b-day party because he wants to go to Chuck E Cheeses, you know, where a kid can be a kid?! That won’t be happening this year, too expensive for my budget. I would much rather enjoy our new house with a nice BBQ, cake, ice cream, kids running wild and great company!

So while I try to continue to unpack and get organized here in the new homestead, I also am working on creating a celebration for my sons who will be turning 5 & 7 in August!
