Rules of Engagement: Water Balloon Fights

Filling water balloons, this near daily task never gets easier as each Summer arrives. It’s such a tedious task for such a short time period of fun. I do it every year though, just to seek smiles and laughter from my children.  A pile of empty water balloons are set on the counter, this sets the limit on how many I will fill with water, tie and place into a mop bucket.

Rules of Engagement Water Balloon Style

I filled this amount of water balloons, two times. Yes, two times. The boys were happy, but we had to go over some rules of engagement before they were allowed to start grabbing and throwing balloons at each other. I am going to share with you, how we enjoy a good ole backyard water balloon battle with little to no arguments.

Water Balloon Fight for Summer Break

First off, I place all water balloons into a mop bucket, any bucket shall do, and bring it outside with the kids. I know once you fill the balloons it will be difficult to get the kids to not touch them right away, but it’s vitally important that you let them know, none of these get touched until the ground rules aka Rules of Engagement are heard and agreed upon …

  • No one, and I mean no one is to throw a water balloon at anyone’s face, unless told to do so by that person.
  • No one is to throw a water balloon at another person unless they 1) have a water balloon in hand and 2) are partaking in the battle.
  • When the bucket of water balloons are gone, there are no more water balloons, so use them wisely.
  • If your kids are like mine can be, make sure to count how many balloons each child is allowed to have. Once used up, they are done.
  • No throwing water balloons at any windows, cars or other inanimate objects that may break.
  • Last but not least, HAVE FUN!

Get out and Have fun with Kids Water Balloon Style

If you are the adult making all of the water balloons, make sure to get a few thrown at you too, just for fun. Getting out there, throwing water balloons and being one with your kids this Summer is a great way to build family unity and bonds. Keep smiling and having fun this Summer with your family, make memories every chance you get.

I got soaked and the water was FREEZING COLD, but it was so much fun to watch the boys excitement over getting Mama and WINNING our little water balloon battle. Next time? I will be the winner. I swear.

Valentines Day Gifts for the Man in Your Life

Are you struggling with what to get for your boyfriend or husband this Valentines Day? Well, you’re not alone – women around the world agree that choosing a Valentines Day gift for the man in their lives can be almost impossible. It doesn’t seem fair that there isn’t a masculine equivalent to a bunch of red roses or a bottle of perfume – most men don’t seem to know what they want anyway! Don’t despair; here are our top tips for making your man happy this February 14th.

Themed Slippers

Most men like slippers but don’t make the mistake of getting him boring ‘old man’ slippers. Get him something he will actually care about, something that ignites a dash of passion. You could get him NFL slippers of his favorite team, for example.

Watch

Every man loves a nice wristwatch and without spending a fortune there are hundreds of models available in a wide range of traditional and modern styles. Something is available for the most outdoor man to the elegant gent about town.

Computer Games

Even though guys are not usually good at dropping hints, you will have heard him or his buddies talking about the new ‘must have’ computer game. The only downside with this gift is that he may spend more time with it than with you for a while, unless of course you are into it too!

Tickets to an Event

Buy two tickets to see his favorite band or singer – this has two advantages; you get a night out as well and the anticipation of waiting until the date of the gig means he will feel like he’s getting a gift every day!

If he’s into theatre, the tickets might be for a show or you could of course get him tickets to his choice of sports event but be careful – choose something you’d like to go to too.

Magazine Subscription

No matter what he’s into; fishing, auto sports or the history of air travel, there is a magazine or a choice of magazines that specialize in the subject. Get him a subscription and have every edition for a year delivered to him at home. Again, he’ll be reminded of your thoughtfulness all year round.

Food

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and it is usually true. Take him out for a meal that you know he’ll like or put together a hamper of his favorite treats, no matter how peculiar the mix might be. If you choose it right, he’ll know you care and that you’ve been thinking about him.

Revisit his childhood

It is also said that all men are big kids at heart so why not consider getting him something that will indulge the boyish side of his nature? Nobody is too old to enjoy flying a kite or a toy glider and for the less adventurous there are some really cool radio controlled indoor helicopters now available.

The Boys Birthday Party #birthdayparty #raisingboys

For the first time in their five and seven years of living, my sons had their first real birthday party ever this past weekend. Both boys were allowed to invite any friends they wanted and, of course, any that I could find a way to contact as this was Summer break from school. The boys were happy to have friends here for a party, and of course relatives as well. Some relatives I haven’t seen much of in the past, such as my cousin Troy and his girlfriend even arrived!

Boys Birthday Party

I had to rush to the store first thing in the morning, well when I woke up which was closer to 10am, for the ice cream, balloons and while out I decided that punching balloons just had to be at these boys birthday party, for sure! Dollar Tree is like one of the best stores to visit because every single thing in there is $1, okay some things are under $1 but nothing is above $1. A true dollar store. Two bags of punching balloons at $1 per 3 balloon pack were picked up and quickly blown up upon my arrival back home.

Punching Balloons

Wat-AAH! was the refreshment of choice for this party too, we had a cooler full of drinks for all to enjoy. I had to laugh about serving Wat-AAH! because it’s water, bottled water, well it’s more than just that, it’s Wat-AAH! and the guests had fun laughing at how my kids pronounce it all pirate-ish to their friends and the family. The boys were not impressed at first that all I had in the cooler of ice was bottled wat-aah! but it was all they drank and boy did they drink. It was a pretty hot day with sunshine shining down, so those kiddos needed to stay hydrated and they did.

WAT-AAH

The boys originally wanted me to have two cakes for them, but me not being a great cake maker went to purchase the cakes only to realize they were close to $15 each. Two cakes were not an option, not one bit. Thankfully my sons were able to fight until they agreed come to an agreement on one gold cake with a birthday greeting written on top from the bakery at Market Basket.

boys turn five and seven

The party was a super hit and I am so happy that the boys were able to celebrate their birthdays in a unique way this year; it started with each having one special day alone with their Dad and ended with this amazing party blast of a day!

Mama and her boys

I am now the proud Mom of two boys who are five and seven… boy how time flies!

Preserve Old Photo Albums in Digital Fashion via @yesvideo

YesVideo recently announced the ability to not only work with your video and digital works of art as a way to preserve family memories but now they are able to take your old photo albums and make those photos digital page by page! YesVideo can easily use their no touch technique to transfer your old albums into a digital version.

I have always loved photos, as a young child I had a 35mm camera, I believe it was called, where I took so many photos that I filled three huge albums with pictures of me growing up, hanging with friends and family moments.  This picture shown above is the outside of a really old album, let’s say it’s around 4th grade and forward into 8th grade pictures. The cover is lamented with various clippings of photos because back in the day I was in love with making collages.

I can’t imagine having old memories transferred into the digital age. I heard wind of this new service from YesVideo prior to it’s public release and felt extremely anxious to test out the service. I will be working on utilizing this transfer of old albums to digital DVD album as soon as I possibly can to ensure the preservation of albums that could be lost in a natural weather disaster or such in the home.

I can’t wait to see photos of my old friends in digital format, to be able to watch a slide-show on my computer of the good old days! The number of albums I have is well over five at this time in my life for I switched over to digital pictures many years ago, but the albums I do have are worth preserving forever!

Head on over to YesVideo today to find out more regarding their product and services. May was a huge month for weddings and recently my sister got married so I do know that you can use YesVideo to preserve a variety of memories now at a reasonable price!
