My baby is four years old, he is in pre-k and is making lots of friends. K-man has grown from the nickname Baby-K to Monster-K in a short year because he will no longer allow anyone to call him the baby in the family. I keep explaining that he is my baby and he is the baby of the family but the term baby apparently is unacceptable to him. I love watching as he takes strides in being independent and taking to be his own little unique person, always the comedian in the family, he allows us to laugh when things get a little hectic around here. One day I woke up and my first born was nearing that age of adolescence. No longer was she that sweet little angel of a girl I knew at age 2, she was nearing 10 years old and for the past four years I had noticed changes in her. I knew that she would be starting her hormone changes earlier than I did and that scared me, in more ways than one. Having been very close as mother and daughter, I trusted that my daughter would come to me with anything that she had on her mind. Kids Who Prefer One Parent Over the Other

I firmly believe that every child, even as an adult, has a favorite parent, not really because they are their “favorite” by normal definitions, but because it’s the parent that they can relate closer to, maybe it’s the parent they are just more comfortable talking to, or maybe it’s the parent who is more fun. Whatever the reasons, I firmly believe we all have that “favorite” parent and my kids are no exception. The older two kids pick and choose, having moments in their lives when they favor Dad over me or me over Dad. There isn’t really a rhyme nor reason to it, it’s just how it is. And that is okay. The Magic of Santa Claus

I had a discussion with my father one day about how my oldest believes in Santa, she is 10. I think that it’s important to keep the magic alive. Santa Claus is such a wonderful magical person to believe in, why kill the magic for your child before they are ready to have that magic killed?
