Everyone needs a little comforting once in a while, and this is why many families are turning to weighted blankets. Companies such as Weighted Blankets Plus take pride in offering blankets that are cozy and calming for everyone. Here are the benefits of using weighted blankets.
Weighted Blankets Offer A Calming Effect For Disorders
A weighted blanket is therapeutic for people with disorders, and one example would be individuals with autism. Weighted Blankets Autism are known to create a deep pressure touch stimulation, and this stimulation produces a neurotransmitter called serotonin. Serotonin is a calming chemical that influences their sleep, appetite, memory and overall mood. A weighted blanket can also be used for sleep issues such as night terrors, anxiety, work related stress and sleep apnea. A weighted blanket also promotes a sleep hormone called melatonin, and this hormone helps individuals get enough sleep at night. The secure feeling of having the weighted blanket draped over their shoulders or lap keeps them calm in any situation.
The Extra Weight Feels Like A Hug
A warm hug can be a very powerful tool when someone is feeling uncomfortable or anxious. The blanket is made of a soft fabric and filling to add weight without causing discomfort. The extra weight creates a warming pressure that feels like a hug and relaxes the entire body. Children and adults can use the blanket as their own personal hug when they need to feel safe and secure.
Weighted Blankets Can Be Used Anywhere
Whether it is a road trip or bedtime, a weighted blanket comes in handy in different situations. The blanket can be used as a comfort tool while watching a movie or trying to fall asleep at home. It can also be used in situations where a child or adult must sit still for an extended period of time, including classrooms, daycare centers, hospitals and long car rides. Companies such as Weighted Blankets Plus also offer weighted lap pads and stuffed animals, and this makes it easy to find comfort when away from home.
Weighted Blankets Are Easy To Maintain
The blanket is made of a soft but durable material to last through daily use and laundry day. It is easy to clean the blanket because it can be placed inside the washing machine and dryer.
A weighted blanket is a great product for children and adults who suffer from sleep issues and disorders. The soft material and extra weight create a sense of comfort and security in any situation.

I’ve always looked for heavier blankets, but guess I didn’t realize some were weighted. Learned something new!
My daughter has used one for years. She has SPD. I think she was maybe 2 1/2 when we bought a really good one and that helped a bit for her.
I have heard so many great things about these. I have a good friend who uses one for her son.

I have to admit that I’ve never heard of these types of blankets. I’m delighted to know they exist and that they are used in a helpful, therapeutic way…
Being a Mom to an autistic son who has multiple blankets on top of him to sleep, even in the Summer season, I had heard about weighted blankets and plan to get one for him soon. Something about the comfort it gives kids on the spectrum, really is amazing what is available to help soothe kids and adults.
I was completely unaware of Serotonin before reading this blog post. I think these blankets should be recommended or suggested by all autism specialists to the patients. The best part is that we can use these for both regular and therapeutic purposes.
