It’s here, school vacation time and parents everywhere are updating their Facebook statuses hoping for school time to come back soon, but why say things like that? Why not find ways to make Winter school vacation work for you and your children in a positive way?
This is great for school vacation when you have more than the normal kids or when you are simply a parent of a lot of children! I say first, team up the children in a way that works for them. I know you hate to admit it but siblings to tend to unite in their own ways. I know at my house that Baby K is often left out when Ki is home because her & AJ team up to do their own thing leaving the little one left to look for things to do alone or with Mama. All children have a natural way of uniting together to form a friendship between siblings that no one ever really fully understands.
Today I invite you to work on that team setup, group up the children in a positive way, you know what I mean – place those children who will work well as a team together on one team and the others on another team. Then play a game we like to play here at my house called Guesstures. Guesstures is fun for all ages and it can be fun & silly to relax a stressful group of parents and children. Have fun acting out silly words & filling your house with laughter during this fun game time moment!
Another great thing to do to try to wind things down a bit with a lot of children is to read some books. The older children can read to the younger children and each can team up in groups, parents can join in and read as well. My family is a big book lover family, I have always had books a part of their lives so I am lucky in that all three of my children will sit with me to read a couple books no matter what time of day it is. Pick books appropriate for the age levels as well as ones that would be exciting for your children to hold their interest longer. Book time will work as a fun, relaxing way to wind down the children after a long day of play.
Is it snowing outside? Do your kids love the snow? Let them go out and have a blast, of course if they are young like mine then you too may have to freeze with them for a bit because you can’t let the little ones go unattended. Maybe the older children will be happy to team up with the little ones giving you a much needed parent break!
Last but not least, remember to breath soon your children will be back in school and believe it or not you will miss having them around so much!
Remember to keep smiling, this too shall pass!
So true Brandy! I find that with my children they get bored fairly quickly so we have to continue to change things up a bit.
