This weekend I watched Yes Man with Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, and Bradley Cooper. This movie was amazing! Not only did I just love the comedy behind it, I loved the purpose behind the “Yes Man” concept.
Basically the movie is about a man named Carl {Jim Carrey} who always says no to anything you ask of him. It could be as simple as going out for a drink to attending an engagement party, Carl is a person that can not commit to anything and would prefer living a very sheltered “safe” life than taking a chance in life.
Finally an old friend stops by Carl’s bank and tells him about the Yes Man
seminar and says he really must attend. The seminar is fantastic and allows you to live your life to the fullest and not worry about a thing. Carl does attend the Yes Man seminar and boy is it a hilarious part of the movie. After the seminar Carl goes on to lead a rather interesting life, saying YES to everything. His best friend’s take advantage of this, BIG TIME, and who wouldn’t – I know if my best friend had to say YES to everything it would be fun to test them … this particular best friend asked Carl, “Do you want to throw my fiance a bridal shower?” and what do you think Carl said?
You will have to watch the movie to learn more, but I wanted to touch on the whole idea behind “Yes Man” or rather what I understood Yes Man to be telling us about life:
We all live life contently, is there a specific routine you have developed and are comfortable with? Yeah, me too! Do you have a certain way of being a parent, do you do the same thing day in and day out? Yeah, me too!
Now I invite YOU to take a look into the concept of Yes Man, it is a very simple technique and, when done in proportion, may benefit your life in a positive way. The idea is to say YES to anything and everything, however, that could lead to problems {like in the movie}. What I would like to invite you to do today, tomorrow, any day in the near future, is to say YES to something, anything, that you would normally shy away from, or say no to. Try to respond YES to a couple new things each day, I think this will open your eyes up, bring more positive energy into your family life and it may be fun as well!
What are some things that you may have been asked to do recently and you said NO? Could have been something as little as going out to eat with friends and you responded, “No sorry, I have work to do” or maybe “I don’t think so, not this time, but maybe next time” even though YOU KNEW you were NOT going to go out with your friends anytime in the near future?!
I invite you to bring some positive responses into your life, don’t say YES to everything, but try to respond YES more often than not. Watching Yes Man is a great way to better understand the concept behind being a Yes Man {or woman}.
Great review! I’ve been wondering about seeing this movie, now I have to see it. I say yes to a lot of things, sometimes too much.
