We are all guilty of feeling overwhelmed from time to time, think about it, when you look at the big picture of everything on your plate at any given moment; it is easy to become overwhelmed. The key to living a positive lifestyle and having a positive mindset is learning the ability to focus on one thing at a time.
Case in point – you have all of the bills becoming due soon with only a handful of cash in your bank account. What will you do? How will you pay all of those bills? I am here to tell you to breath, I am sure hearing someone telling you to breathe doesn’t really assist in allowing you to do that, but seriously, just take a deep breath. Focus on one bill at a time, one item at a time and move forward. Think about life as a mini check list, every item having its own line and you only checking off one item at a time.
This method can work well for any area in life, you have bills due? Well I am going to assume they are not all due on the same day, take a step back, review what you need to deal with today in this moment and focus on that one item! If you are more of a visual person, then create a checklist that denotes what you need to complete with the highest priority item being at the top of your checklist.
As you work to check off each item, one by one, you will begin to feel more relaxed, because you will be teaching yourself how to focus on one thing at a time. Thus begins the pattern you need to develop over the next 21 days to be positive. Honestly, life is going to happen whether you wish it to or not, things will come up and demands will be made upon you to step up to the plate. That is just part of being an adult. While I get it, being an adult is overrated at times; it is your job to be a responsible adult, no matter what!
The key to taking one thing at a time is to just keep your mind focused in the immediate priority. You know better than I do what needs to be taken care of right away and what can wait a little while. When it comes to paying bills, they have lead way in some areas, you can defer a payment, you can push a payment out, etc. Work within your means and just remember to breath! Each day that you work to focus on one item on that checklist, versus the whole picture of what responsibilities you have, you will find that your mind will be more at ease to allow you to love life fully.
Once you learn to focus on one thing at a time, and let go of the thoughts of the full plate, you will begin a lovely chapter of living life in a positive mindset.
What a great reminder to take it one thing at a time. I so often forget to slow down and breathe I end up in a big ball of stress.
Now….let’s just breathe 🙂
I can imagine that some people would have a hard time being positive about things. It is weird though because things always work themselves out.
It’s all about taking things slowly and a small piece at a time. Most negativity spawns from being overwhelmed and the feeling that you’ll never accomplish it.
Sometimes it is best to take a step back and just take things one at a time. I have become a master at robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I think there is a lot of truth behind the statement “happiness is a choice”. While there are a lot of things in life that can bring us down, how we react to those things is up to us.
That’s great advice. I tend to get overwhelmed at first, but breaking it down into steps and focusing on one thing at a time is a great idea.
I like the idea of focusing on the immediate priority. I often get overwhelmed by focusing on to many things at the same time.
