When you’re juggling kids, work, keeping your home clean, family, and your relationship, it can be hard to keep up with working out. It seems that working out is one of the first things to go when you’re feeling a little overwhelmed. There has to be a way to get some exercise in throughout your busy day, though, right? Well, there are! Here are a number of different workouts that you can do throughout your day without taking too much time out of your day.
If you’re a mom, one of the easiest ways to add some exercise to your routine and bond with the kids is to play with your kids at the park or in the backyard. Play tag, play basketball, go on a bike ride, or just take a hike. Kids are very high energy. Joining them during some of their play time can be a great way to burn some calories. Also, you won’t feel bad, because you’re never wasting time when you’re playing with your kids.
Another very helpful suggestion is to watch what you eat. Eat salads, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. If the kids are having burgers and fries, order a salad. Or if you’re cooking, make sure you have some ground turkey to make yourself your own, leaner burger.
Lastly, schedule your exercise. If you tell yourself that every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that you can take an hour for a spin class, you will have already made accommodations for the children for that hour. You can also use this time as your own alone time. Paying for a class is also a good motivator. If you invested the money into the class, you are going to feel obligated to go.
Another thing you can think about is finding a gym with childcare or classes for children. You can go to your spin class while your little one has their swimming lesson.
Another thing to help you in your workout routine is to set realistic goals. Do you remember that size six dress that no longer fits you in the hips? Set the goal to go back down to that size in a month. Specific occasions like a wedding or a reunion can also give you that motivation that you are looking for.
Lastly, be sure to find something that you enjoy. If you don’t like riding a bike, look into other options. Maybe a kickboxing class is more appropriate for you. There are also pilates, yoga with an emphasis on weight-loss, or a number of other choices.
Life is very busy. However, there are a number of ways to make time for your workout. When you set time for it and find something you like, it’s easier to follow through.
