I finally decided to start putting my health up there on the scale of importance and saw a Primary Care Physician a little while back. My concerns were:
- Family History with Colon Cancer, and cancer in general.
- My high blood pressure
- Family History with High Cholesterol
- Diabetes and Thyroid issues in Family History
I have also been having some heart palpitations that came with a tingly feeling in my left arm, blurry vision, dizziness and well it plain right scares me. I was having these during moments of rest and they started happening again so now we work on trying to see what is up with that. As it stands now, we are going to see if increased activity and attempt at diet changes will help with the high blood pressure over the next couple months. I had an EKG done, with just fine results. I will be put on a heart monitor, whatever it is called, for 24 hours to monitor my heart rate to see if we can’t catch when I think I am feeling those palpitations to get to a root cause of what’s going on with my lovely heart.
Next up, this month I get to have my first colonoscopy done at age 33, due to family history and some symptoms I have been having for many years. Finally, I am braving up and getting this stuff looked at, but I recently received the prep list of foods. One week prior to the colonoscopy my food list of “stay away from” is granola, which I eat on a regular every day at the office while working. Here’s hoping I don’t forget I cannot eat that for a week. I can’t have cucumbers, which is what I started adding to my sandwich at lunch time. I am hoping this whole thing comes back fine and that it helps show my kids that we need to put ourselves first too.
Whether it is health or desires, I always have put my own self on the back burner and it is something I simply do naturally as I am overall a very selfless person. I firmly believe parenthood requires a high level of selflessness and so I happened to just become one with that theory of mine. With that being said, I still need to put my health up there, so my evening appointments and day trips for my own health reasons is starting to show the kids that Mama cares about her own health too! Here’s hoping my heart monitor shows that at least something is going on with my heart, hopefully something not that bad, and that my colonoscopy is fine so I can only have to go back once every 10 years from here.
In the meantime, what do you advise to do for the High Blood Pressure issue? I am trying options at home for couple of months before even thinking about the medication we discussed at my appointment.
