With the news covering many Mom bloggers who are making a living writing from home and completing product reviews for brands as well as attending events to represent such brands, it makes sense many wish to start their own blog and hop on the mom & dad blog wagon. Here is what you need to know before jumping into the blogging sensation:
- Determine why you want to blog – do not go into starting a blog just because you want to make money – although you can set a goal to make this a revenue for your household – do not start blogging as a way to just make money. You will lose the passion behind your writing voice.
- Decided on a free blogging platform or self hosted paid blogging platform – if your ultimate goal is to earn revenue the best option is having a self hosted blog platform honestly. Free blog platforms can be shut down if you are making too much money by using affiliate links, sponsored posts too heavily based on their individual terms of service.
- What Will You Blog About? That is the most important question after you decide how you will start blogging, what is it you wish to spread to the world that you have a clear, passionate voice about? Some mom’s have children with special needs, some blog about how they got out from debt, while others focus on saving money or just writing a journal about their family.
- Set your own limits and rules – this means if you wish to keep your children protected as much as possible, set up nicknames and always use them, do not publish too many full pictures of your children or maybe you don’t want to have your children listed at all on your blog – just set reasonable limits and privacy settings based on your own comfort level of what is okay to share publicly or not and stick with them always!
- Use spelling and grammar check, read your blog posts at least twice before publishing them. This is something I slack on but I have read many complaints about spelling & grammar errors from other bloggers who really get upset when bloggers do not use proper spelling & grammar.
If you have a passionate voice, a story to tell or family far away and you wish to just start a blog while earning some revenue to being with, I suggest you read more on Blogging Support, this will address all sorts of topics and questions that may arise on your journey to start a blog.
My one tip is: Start small but think big.
awesome tips and suggestions. I am showing this to my brother!
I agree about spelling and grammar. I can handle a few small things, but some bloggers can’t even form sentences. If a blog post is too hard to read, I skip it!

Love your blog..I have one tiny question…How did you get to review the Happy Napper? My kids have been asking for that oversized monkey since before Christmas, and they aren’t available in stores…thanks!
Ahh the grammar thing. I have been reading my blog posts over and over. It’s funny how those grammar errors just appear. I read a post several times before posting it and then a few times after it is published just to make sure I didn’t miss something.
