I admit, my mother and I have our issues that seem to be pretty common among the mother/daughter generations but I like to say that I have many things to thank her for, probably as many as I can thank my Dad for.
You see, I love both of my parents dearly, they both have taught me some pretty important life lessons. My mom, for instance, taught me that if you get a DWI {driving while intoxicated} at age 18 that you should just sit your butt in jail all night, thank goodness her boyfriend felt otherwise. Believe me, I was pretty much at “lesson learned” when those police officers put handcuffs on me, no need for a jail cell.
My father has taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you realize the mistake, learn from it, admit that it was a mistake and move forward. Seriously, he won’t let me forget who I was because who I was made who I am today … okay I am still that person but we buried her deep down inside and she only comes out to play on occasion ;-).
My Mom taught me that you will only realize the job a mother has and the emotional toll they go through, when you are a mother yourself. I bet she is laughing inside all like “oh yeah, that’s what you get for being a sassy teen”. Payback from Mom’s usually comes in the form of giving birth to your twin, yes indeed it does.
My Dad has taught me many things I will not share on this blog, but because he taught me these things at a young age, I made sure I got good grades and didn’t bow down to too much peer pressure in high school years.
My Mom and I are still learning how to show love to one another after a long, hard road. My parents were teens when I was born, my mother being only 15 years old. For that, I can’t imagine what being a Mom was all about for her because she was suppose to be thinking about being a child herself. I like to think my parents and I sort of “grew up” together in some sense, but what am I saying I doubt I will ever fully grow up. A big kid at heart is me.
All joking aside, I am thankful for my parents tough love style with me, the first born – pride and joy, because I have seen what enabling a child all of their life can create and it’s not pretty. Thank you Mom & Dad for totally ticking me off as a teen because I am here today and I feel I have made a great life for myself.
Love to both of my parents.
You’re welcome…….NOW GO GET UM !!!! lv ya 2
