I am all about spending time with my kids. I think it’s important for every parent to get down to your child’s level and just be one in the same with them. I am not talking about playing necessarily, even just sitting back on the couch with the kids letting them ramble nonsense and you ramble nonsense back if there is a pause in between your child’s ramblings. This is a great way to teach your child how to communicate too. In case you haven’t already realized, I am that tricky parent, I am all about everything I do with my kids from fun time to not so fun time, teaches some skill or life lesson that is going to be necessary for them to learn before adulthood. That is …

The real story of your life doesn’t need to be explained. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to explain nor get anyone else to understand the decisions you make in life. Sure people may shake their heads. Sure some may feel that you keep making the same mistakes. Who cares? I am sure every one of us makes similar mistakes over and over again in our lives, we are human. It’s difficult for me, as a writer and avid talker, to not get caught up in explaining myself or my decisions. I have been raised in a way that I always felt the need to explain in detail why I have made decisions that I have made. Finally, one day it dawned on me that no matter how …

Just about every parent has had a moment in parenthood when their child as done lost their mind; a legs flailing, arms flying, mouth screaming temper tantrum. Most say the year of the two’s are the worst, makes sense because this is a time when your child realizes that they have their own mind and can test the boundaries of their parents. In my experience the age of 4 and 6 were the worst, with my youngest it’s this age of four and with my oldest it was once she hit 6 that I found myself dealing with various parental testing, mind boggling temper tantrums. I had quite a few my own self dealing with these changes in my children, but then I realized the trick, what works to diffuse …

Every form of abuse, to adults and children, hurts. It can be physical and emotional, the sad thing is that emotional abuse is the kind that goes overlooked until that teen on the news is caught shooting someone or their own self. Again, I will remind you all that guns do not kill people, people kill people. I watch the news as these teens with deep issues go unnoticed and it makes me sad. I wish there were more rule books on how to realize your child is having an emotional melt down. You see not all people speak up when they are going through abuse, some have no one to speak up to. It seems in this day and age everyone should really start coming to grips with the …

No matter what I do in life as a woman and a parent, I am drawn to helping children. I know there are agencies and nonprofit organizations to assist children but there has to be more that I can do. I think that working to uplift a child is so much easier than dealing with therapy as an adult. Maybe it’s because I had to fight so many demons to become who I am today that I hope to find a way to help deter such demons from coming to children. Whatever the reason, I have a strong pull to help our future generation. This is why I sat down with my daughter and wrote a book loosely based on how my daughter and I interact. This isn’t a book …
