Last night as Lee and I sat watching an episode of Parenthood together, the topic of college tuition came up. $60,000 a year was the price for this Ivy League school in the show, I watched as Lee’s jaw just about dropped to the floor, apparently somebody hasn’t been up to par with just how expensive college is today and how much more it will cost by the time our children are there. That is why I love sharing sites like CampusBookRentals with you all, because no matter how much college tuition costs, it’s so worth getting your child the best education possible. The easiest way to save some cash on college costs would be to rent books, why pay full price costs for books you may only need one …

It was a sad day when I learned that a water pipe had burst sending thousands of gallons of water through my two younger children’s school, leaving the old building of the school in shambles. The library was full of wet books, the office and the cafeteria where a few places in the school I had heard were full of water and showing signs of damage from the water pipe bursting. I literally cried. Yes, I am an emotional lady these days, but this is a school I went to as a child, the old part of my children’s building is the same place I went for first grade up through third grade. This is a great school, with amazing teachers and students! Due to the school having to be …

Now I am not one to stomp on another parents right to allow their child to do whatever that parent deems fit. A parental choice for a child of another person is not my business, but I must say I am concerned about a few things: The number of elementary children having to babysit their younger sibling(s). The number of elementary children walking from school to an empty home. The number of elementary aged children on Facebook. I do not recall how old I was when I started walking the streets of the town I grew up in, but I am sure it was way younger than I will feel comfortable allowing my children to walk the streets. My daughter came to me a few weeks ago asking if she …

A local high school principal has been arrested with allegations of simple assault. A 16 year old had a meeting with two teachers and the high school principal when allegations arose that this principal hit her on the back two or three times and the last time resulted in the student have her head hit the coffee cup on a table in front of her. Although I don’t know all of the facts of this case nor do I know if the student was a girl or a boy, I do know that it seems more and more negative news is being released in the media of bad teachers, mean teachers and plain out right horrible teachers. What happened to featuring the honorable teachers, principals and students? What happened to …

Guest post is brought to you by Nicole Bostic of DebtConsolidation.com Summer is upon us and with it the urge to buy new clothes for not just your newly diet trimmed self but the kids as well! Of course, for many women, clothing shopping is the quickest way to blow your monthly budget and fall off the financial independence train. But here are a few reminders/tips to help put your financial anxieties at ease and still live well while living frugally. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. One of the most common reasons for everyone’s seasonal impulse to buy right now is “spring cleaning.” Take advantage of everyone else’s purges and hit up your friends before you hit up the store. Whether it’s for you, the kids, or even …
