Once the winter weather starts to be forgotten, and spring is the air, it’s time for the spring cleaning to start. Spring is the season where everything is about new starts, as plants start to bloom, and foliage returns to the trees. Cleaning you home, and getting rid of items you no longer need, helps you to make a fresh start before the summer months ahead.
Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring cleaning can also help you create more room in your home and it can help control pests by making sure that debris is cleared away and any damp that has appeared as the result of winter leaks is noticed and dealt with.
Plan What You Need
One of the most important things you need to do, before you start to spring clean, is plan what items you will need to complete the work. There are obvious things you will need to hand such as a vacuum cleaner, brush and cleaning rags. You may also need to have specific polishes and resins to hand, depending on what type of furniture you have. Having everything available before you start means that you will not have to interrupt your cleaning to search for certain items.
Start Bright and Early
Getting up early, and starting to prepare the first room for cleaning, is the best way of getting motivated. You tend to feel more awake at this time of day and you also know that you have plenty of time ahead of you, so you do not feel rushed or stressed. Start by making space so you can clean thoroughly. This may mean moving furniture or placing furnishings in boxes until you are ready to clean them.
Clean-Up in Stages
Most jobs are easier if you complete them in stages. It helps to make you feel as though you have accomplished something as you complete each stage. Start by setting yourself a goal of cleaning one room, then carry on with the next room, and so on.
Clear Out as You Go
Spring cleaning provides you with the perfect opportunity to get rid of all those items that you do not use and create more space in your home. Make sure that you label some boxes beforehand for items that you want to keep, those that can be recycled, those that can be sold or given to charity and those that need to be simply thrown out. It’s important to be ruthless and not keep anything that is never going to be of use.
One of the most important things to remember when you start to spring clean is that you should try and turn it into a fun activity. For some people this is easy as they enjoy cleaning. For others this may be more difficult. If cleaning is a chore for you, it may be a good idea to play your favorite music as you clean, or to include your kids by turning it into a game for them.
Remember that your home will improve as a result of spring cleaning and you will feel a great sense of satisfaction. The sooner you get started, the sooner this can happen.
