They just happen to be breathtakingly beautiful as well.
The Rockies – Colorado to Canada:
While North American ski resorts tend to be a little pricier than their European counterparts, they do boast some of the highest tuition standards, and of course the opportunity to learn in your native language, and make a great addition to any trip to the USA. The historic town of Telluride offers excellent training for complete beginners with a bit of the town’s unique mining history and old world charm thrown in. With 50% of the terrain suitable for complete beginners, this is an excellent spot for your first ski holiday.
In Canada, Fernie Alpine Resort is famous for its excellent snowfall record, and soft powder snow which is perfect for beginners. Located in British Columbia, this resort offers more than just skiing, with a fantastic zip line and treetop aerial park too.
If budget is a concern, however, look no further than…
Known is well known among skiing circles as perhaps the least expensive option for a ski holiday, with most runs suitable for beginners and those progressing to intermediate level. With quiet slopes, generally free of the more advanced skiers, it is also a fantastic family option. La Caubella and Comellemple in particular, while perhaps a bit difficult to pronounce, are certainly not difficult to learn the basics and practice your turns!
No list of ski resorts would be complete however without a mention of…
The French Alps
If you are travelling with children, The Village des Enfants in Avoriaz is a wonderful place to introduce kids to the sport, as they cater for little ones as young as three years old! Using small slides and mini tracks and even a moving carpet, children are taught the basics through play, games and fun. Lessons for the adults are also planned according to the children’s timetable.
And if you’re hankering for a little summer weather during your winter trip, the incredible Aquariaz water park, essentially a massive indoor heated tropical garden and swimming pool resort is also located in Avoriaz! Complete with climbing walls, lush vegetation, massage benches and an open-air heated spa, it’s a fantastic place to soothe some tired muscles before you hit the slopes again. There are also lovely traditional restaurants and non-skiing activities available in the village, so this remarkable spot really offers something for every member of the family.
From world renowned tuition in The Rockies, beginners on a budget in Andorra, or the young family looking for a holiday which offers it all in The French Alps, we trust you have been inspired to take up those skis, get out on the pistes and create a skiing holiday to remember!
