My mom and I headed off to the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH on Saturday to meet & greet the American Idols Top 10 of 2012, but we were heading there with the mission to help spread more awareness about the #ItCanWait Campaign from AT&T.
There we are waiting outside in the hot sunshine for our names to be called to head inside to meet and greet the 10 American Idols and get their signature.
Prior to the show and during intermission you saw up on the screen various commercials for sponsors of the American Idols Live Summer Tour show and one of those was that #ItCanWait campaign from AT&T. Everyone there was asked to tweet on Twitter using the hashtag and take the pledge to not text and drive.
Each Idol was shown saying why they are taking the pledge or who they are taking the pledge for, and I have taken the AT&T’s #ItCanWait Campaign pledge to not text and drive for my children. They learn by example and if I am on the road texting while driving I may as well be telling my kids that it’s okay for them to do when they become teen drivers.
All too often I see drivers of cars on the road with their eyes downward, clearly they are texting while driving or at least reading a text message. People, it’s not that important. Have we become so involved with cell phones that we can’t even drive down the road without checking that message? We seem to have started to have this “I want it now” mentality when in reality “good things come to those who wait”.
So I ask you all today, to go over to AT&T’s website and take the pledge, then send me a tweet @brandyellen telling me that you took this pledge. I want to see just how many of you will pledge to not text & drive. Remember to use the hashtag #ItCanWait in your tweet to me!
May you all have a safe and happy week!
