When I make a meal, I don’t just make a meal; I make memories.
When I sit down to eat, I don’t just sit down to eat; I make memories.
When its meal time around this house I can tell you first hand it’s a challenge, as with almost any structured area of life when you have multiple children. I think my kids are lucky that I am not all adult, I am half adult and half child still, because it is this very reason I am able to keep a straight head, smile and cook a meal all while keeping kids happy.
How does one complete such a task?
Well of course it all depends on the kids, but this is what works for my munchkins ….
Kids, Mama is getting ready to cook our meal. Can you all please come out here for a minute?
In enters hyper, running children. I can hear their feet in China I swear it.
Okay kids. I really need to be near the stove and such to cook this meal so I need to know what you all want to do to entertain yourselves.
I could hear crickets chirping I swear it ….
I am just kidding kids! DUH. Okay so I have set up some coloring pages, crayons and some white paper as well as construction paper. Why not draw me some really great pictures for my office while I cook this meal?
Claps, cheers, BIG smiles … they are proud that Mama wants artwork to place in her office to decorate her office walls. Just like the dining room walls they decorated so full of artwork for their Mama.
This keeps kids entertained long enough for a short meal prep and cook time. Hey I can’t ask for everything at once right? At least I know I have enough time to cook a well balanced meal that takes 30-45 minutes before the children are bored, arguing with each other or running wild in the kitchen again.
Cheers til next time on parenting with Big Kid Brandy.
