Though I know astrology is based on sun-star alignments, I've always related to people and their signs in a more earthy, seasonal sense. I've always identified with my Piscean self as one who recognizes the traits of other signs and see the value of such diversity. Here's the trouble: that adaptive, open-mindedness is really a Piscean/Gemini/Virgo/Sag thing and not an Aquarius trait -- the trait I would now be categorized as. So if I refuse to recognize the new system, does that just confirm that I'm more fixed like an Aquarian? If I start to recognize myself as an Aquarian, does that mean I'm acting like an adaptive fish?

Well, I'm here to tell you it's a lot more complicated than that. We are not just representatives of our sun sign just as there are not only 12 human molds (sorry, Battlestar Galactica fans). In astrology, each planet and the signs they fall under at the time of our birth are meant to have an affect on our personality as well. Throw in nature and nurture and you've got a very unique mix that no one sign will cover.

So someone whose hooked on the whole astrology mess either just had their notions challenged or confirmed depending on whether atrology has been a crutch for them (expecting the stars to define who they are) or a way of facing challenges (serving as constructive criticism that helps them grow). Frankly, I giggle at the idea of a fundamentalist astrology. We are not here to be defined but to define ourselves. Perhaps relating to the Aquarian traits would give me a fresh prespective on life. I accept the challenge.

I also am now a Gemini instead of a Cancer. That's OK, I was never thrilled with that crab symbol anyway. For me, I will only affect which horoscope I read when glancing through magazines at the dentist's office. Beyond that, it certainly won't matter.

My dad apparently is now an Ophiucus, whereas my sign didn't change at all. However, I am no where closer to my sign and people have a hard time believing I am a Leo. If there is a constellation named Suinus Perversus, then that's more like it.
