Having cash in hand really helps you budget better but with the kids around it can be more then a hassle. Best to have a balance sheet which you update weekly to see if your spending is on target/ overbudget.

I normally start off the month by depositing cash into the kids accounts to put away some savings for them each month. That way there is lesser chance of overspending.
