You're so right. I think some moms are even more vocal in the twitter/blogosphere when it comes to parenting. I'm not even a mom yet and already had a mommy blogger berate me about a cartoon I mentioned (which I mentioned because I like -- I don't have any kids to show it to!). It's craziness.

Also, it sounds like you learned from your parents' shortcomings just what kind of mom you want to be. You're support and love for your children is giving them something irreplacable and it's something they'll carry with them their entire lives. (I say that because I was lucky enough to have parents who did just what you do) In the long run, they'll make better choices and be less afraid in life knowing that their mom loves them no matter what and that they always have someone to pick them up when they fall down.

I completely agree that no one has the right to tell someone how to parent their kids.

Just the same that a principal can paddle kids at school, but parents are looked down on for swatting their rowdy kids bottoms. :)

At my house, my kids get three warnings. Then, they will get a pop or two on the bottom, nothing major, and sent to their rooms. It's a personal thing, and no one can tell me I'm wrong in doing that. Just the same that no one can say your wrong for not.

There's a line between a paddle and abuse. Nowadays, everything seems to be put into that, ya know?

My friends & I generally raise our kids the same way, but we do have little differences, but we don't comment on it. It's not our place. Something I tell my daughter often: You know I love you? (she says yes) Even if I'm mad at you? (she says yes) Even if you're mad at me? (again she says yes) I never want her to doubt that because I am the mom & we will not always be happy w/each other.
