First I want to say that J. M. Reep is correct. After being accepted by a publisher, if that's the route you take, it takes about 1 year for your book to publish and be released. After that, it's a lot of work keeping it going and promoting. BUT - it's worth every minute of your time spent. Follow your dream and don't give up on it. .-= Martha A. Perhaps the most important thing that first time novel writers need to know is that you have to be very patient. Writing a novel isn’t a sprint; it’s more like a marathon. You say you hope that you might get it done in a few months — and maybe you will — but you should probably expect it will take a couple of years.

As for learning more about the publishing side of things, you might start visiting the blogs of literary agents. Nathan Bransford’s blog is probably the most widely read, but there are many others who can offer you some advice and insight.

I have the opposite problem. The publishing and promoting I have waiting but the writing just won't come to me. I know exactly what I'm SUPPOSED to be writing, but I can't get it started. I'm thinking of just starting in the middle and working my way to the beginning. Good luck, I can't wait to read yours!
