Who is your favorite Smurf? If you could choose which Smurf to be on a game, which one would you choose? I would always choose Papa Smurf, just love him.

Time For a Second Kindle Fire?

Kindle FireLately there have been five children around, hanging out, enjoying the part time company of each other. Ages 12 down to age 4 makes for what one would think of as a crazy mix of age groups, however, all five kids get along so well that I nearly have to pinch myself to ensure I am not living in a dream land when these kids are together.

The only downfall to having five children altogether is that I own one Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire I own is a loved tablet in this household, it is also a loved tablet of the extra two wonderful children who spend time with us. After much consideration, we have decided that a new Kindle Fire must be purchased at some point.

Kre O TransformersAll of the kids enjoy playing hide n seek, doing crafts, building with Kre-O blocks as well as other imagination type play, however, when that gets “boring” they want to use technology to entertain themselves. That means the Wii, the Playstation, the laptop, or the Kindle Fire. With one Kindle Fire, this turns into a true test of how well each child knows how to take turns. They succeed at this for the most part.

I am just thinking that when tax refund has come upon us that some funds must be used to not only pay back any outstanding loans or bills due but to also purchase the new Kindle Fire HD tablet, as it’s the least expensive option out there and it’s been loved so much in my household that I know a second one would be perfect .. that is when/if it can be afforded.

Get Moving with Wii – Just Dance 4 from Ubisoft

I am excited to share with you all one of the few ways my kids and I work out, well it’s more like having fun with our Wii. Believe it or not, during our fun sessions on the Wii with Just Dance 4 and the title I previously purchased at a store, Just Dance 2, we work up a sweat! I laugh when my daughter is all like “Man Mama this is a work out” and I have to reply “duh, what do you think moving your arms, legs and body is?” .. then I get the eye roll.

just dance 4

It’s funny that our Wii has become this little workout machine for the three kids and myself. I love it, but what I love more is music and dancing to our favorite songs such as Disturbia by Rhianna, Good Girl by Carrie Underwood and many others! This is such an upbeat, hip game for every family member. No joke.Just Dance 4 screen shot
It’s fun to dance by yourself to your favorite songs, and if we choose to do our own individual dance, the rest of the family will sit back and cheer on the family member who is taking a turn. We all worked to encourage each other to get the best score ever. One thing I love about this Just Dance 4 is that you can win random items at the end of your dance circuit which is really neat, so we have already unlocked some extra avatars and music for our gaming pleasure.

Just Dance 4 Dance together

Dance together as a group, we have four Wii remotes that do not always have battery life, but when they do, the three kids and I rock it! Oh yeah, it’s fun to get our groove on dancing with four at a time. Small bedroom area to work with, so I would recommend that you all have a huge open space to dance if you are doing more than 1-2 players on Just Dance 4.

Overall we give this Just Dance 4 an A++ because it has allowed my oldest to be more active and will allow us to be more active together during the cold NH Winter months too!

Oh and if you have no rhythm? You can still do this. I have zero rhythm and coordination but am able to follow the on screen commands on how to complete each dance to rock this game with the kids!

Purchase Just Dance 4 on Amazon.com and other local stores that sell video games. Rated E 10+, so this is recommended for ages 10+.

Get Out and Enjoy The Fresh Air #fitness #health @harvardpilgrim

What do you do on a day where there isn’t really anything you can think to do. Maybe taking a walk in the woods or driving downtown to play on the basketball courts isn’t an option. So what is it that you do with the kids to keep active?

Well I know what my kids and I prefer to do, we head outside in our own backyard to enjoy some random fun. Whether they take out the bikes, scooter or just do races up and down the driveway on feet, we get active.

At first my oldest, and only daughter, wasn’t all into riding a bike but I knew if she had one hanging around that she would eventually pick it up on her own and ride it. What I didn’t realize is how soon it would be before she took to riding a bike so often. Now, I can barely get that girl off of her bicycle. Often, when I am cooking dinner she will be outside riding her mountain bike, all alone, just enjoying the ride up and down the long driveway.

Occasionally I will get on the bike and ride with the kids, but if they are all riding bikes, I enjoy speed walking up and down the driveway acting as if I am the fastest person alive and can beat them all on my own two feet vs their wheels! My only thing with going outside and riding bikes or enjoying the backyard is that Winter in NH is coming and it’s suppose to be a brutal snow season.

I am not one for the cold nor the snow so while enjoying the backyard has been and will continue to be a blast during warm seasons in NH, I try to avoid it at all costs during the Winter months.  The only issue I have with trying to ignore the cold backyard is that my children love getting outside and doing active snow fun each Winter.  Here are some ways my family and yours can enjoy the Winter months while keeping your activity level up:

  • Snow Fights - Get some snow balls made beforehand, each family member can help the other make a huge pile of snowballs in their own designated area. Take turns tossing snowballs at each other while running around in a huge “snow war” battle.
  • Make a Snow Fort – Get the shovels out, they make smalls one for the little kids, and start shoveling up snow into huge buckets or just into piles to create a cute little snow fort where you all can enjoy playing and running around.
  • Help with Snow Removal – This may be more fun for the little ones than you, every family member does their part to help clean up the snow off of walk ways and driveway to help make for a path to and from the home.

Of course, after you are outside enjoying all of that cold fun running around, come back inside to warm up to a nice game on your active game console such as the Wii, which we enjoy using while inside during the cold Winter months. There are many ways to be active in the snow, just put your imagination to use and have fun with it!
