Fun Family Halloween Craft – Pumpkin Water Jugs #craft #diy #halloween

Our family was here over weekend, that means all five of our blended family of children were together for a fun filled weekend of having fun. One idea that I had the week prior was to create water jug pumpkins and so we did it! I made sure to have all of the supplies handy and my step Mom supplied me with plenty of water jugs for this craft.

Water Jug Pumpkins

What you will need; permanent makers, orange glow sticks, water jugs.

Get to work creating water jug pumpkins

Miss Ki didn’t want to take part in this fun craft idea, but all of the other children had fun creating their own pumpkin faces.

Creative Pumpkin Halloween Water Jugs

While this was a super fun activity to do as a family, we found that the water jug pumpkins were looking best on one night outside. The glow sticks we used simply were not enough light to keep them glowing as bright as day one. Just glad we were able to do something altogether as a family that was fun and each child put their own creativity into their own water jug pumpkin.

Glowing Water Jug Pumpkin Craft

Basically you have fun taking all of the supplies referenced above drawing on the water jugs, insert rocks or water in the button of the jug to ensure they don’t blow away while on display outside your front door and then insert the glow stick or other item that can make it glow and voila!

There you have a cheap, creative craft for Halloween that any family member can enjoy creating!

Need a New Washing Machine? Choose It Right!

What’d you look for when you buy a washing machine? Is it after-sales service, consumption of water, how energy efficient it is, whether it’s a front or top loader, or how well it cleans clothes?

The most important point to consider when you wish to buy a washing machine is what your washing needs are and how many loads you would wash every week. Based on that, you could decide on the size and capacity of the machine. Other parameters you could consider are whether you should buy a top loader or a front loader, how easy it is to use any, how easy it is to maintain it, how efficiently it uses energy, how much space it takes up, how much noise it makes and the like.

You could start with comparing front loaders and top loaders. Front loaders are said to use much less water than top loaders. Also, they are more energy efficient than top loaders. But the disadvantage is that you must bend down to load the machine or access the clothes after washing. Plus, with the door in front, you would have to make sure there’s excess space in front when you open it. On that count, the top loader is much easier to access. Those with back problems, lay off front loaders.

Also, check for automatic temperature sensing, because this system mixes water to the right temperature. A very important thing to ensure is that the door shuts well. On the noise front, choose something that doesn’t make a racket and drowns all other sounds. Other questions you must get answers to – does it sense dryness automatically and does it ensure wrinkle-free clothes?

If you have many loads a week, it would be best to go in for a stainless steel tub. Check if the washing machine has the technology to understand how much water is really required. That would work well for you, because if you use more water than is required, the clothes may not really get clean as the detergent can get quite dilute. Also, check what kind of cycles it offers. In other words, does it wash a range of clothes – from dirty jeans to a soft toy? Ask if the clothes come out tangle-free. Another feature you could look for is a delayed start. Then it could wash just when you want it to. And then, what’s the after sales service like? Because word of mouth gets around real quick and customers really value service after sales. So, if someone lets out that the service isn’t up to the mark, potential customers would rather not buy the machine.

The best thing to do would be to ask others who already own washing machines and what to look out for. Says a cousin, “I’d buy a washing machine that doesn’t make too much noise, occupy too much space, crush and wrinkle clothes, has a delayed start so it washes clothes when I want it to, and allows me to finish reading a book, while it works away.” That just about sums up what a good washing machine ought to do.

Good luck!

Making Egg Salad Sandwiches

Egg salad sandwiches are a favorite in my home with the ten and six year old. I personally prefer a nice egg salad sandwich on toasted bread with a piece of cheese and some salt sprinkled on it. Today I share with you how I make my egg salad ….

how do I Make egg salad

  • 6 hard boiled eggs
  • 2 tablespoons mayo or salad dressing
  • bowl
  • spoon and fork
  • tsp of salt
  • bread

Make The Egg Salad

Place six eggs into a pan and fill with water. Place on stove on high heat, bringing to a boil. Once the water reaches a boiling point, let eggs boil for 10 minutes.

Pour the eggs from hot pan into a bowl that won’t suffer from having boiling hot water dumped on it under cold running water in the sink. Run cold water on the eggs, keep eggs in a bowl covered in cold water. Put the bowl with hard boiled eggs covered in water in fridge for about ten minutes.

Prepare a bowl with mayo or salad dressing on side, a fork and a tablespoon.

Take the eggs out of the fridge and peel off the shell. Wash each egg off in cold faucet water prior to placing in your mixing bowl.

Use the fork to mash up the eggs and egg yolk until it’s fine without  a lot of chunks. This is where you can play with a texture that works best for you.

Add two tablespoons of mayo or salad dressing to the bowl of chopped up eggs. Mix well.

Make Your Sandwich

Take two pieces of bread, you can toast them in the toaster if you prefer first. Add some egg salad to one of the pieces of bread, top with a sprinkle of salt {if desired} then a piece of cheese {if desired}. Place other piece of bread on top and voila you have your very own egg salad sandwich.

Servings - makes approximately 6 egg salad sandwiches on regular sized sandwich bread.

ZeroWater Leaves your Water at Zero TDS and Giveaway

I am an avid water drinker, but sometimes I wonder what is in my tap water. I have an artisan well which means water comes from deep in the ground, who knows what is lurking out there in the ground, seeping into my water I drink. Sure I try not to think that way, but some days I can’t help but wonder.

Meet the ZeroWater Filter pitcher system, this is the filter and it has become my best friend. Simply fill the reservoir of this pitcher with your tap water and watch as your water goes into the pitcher. What I was even more amazed about using this pitcher is that the water from my tap has a reading of 114 TDS (Total dissolveable solids) prior to going into this filtration system and when it comes out, it’s literally at 0 TDS. I really was not expecting it to go to 0 but it seriously did.

What I found most pleasing about this ZeroWater pitcher is that my daughter, who had no clue what this new pitcher was for, pushed the button filled her cup and took a sip of her water only to turn around and ask what’s up with this new pitcher? The reason she asked me is because she thought the water tasted more “crisp & fresh” than that of the cold water we keep in fridge direct from the tap in a water bottle. So, if her candid review without realizing what this pitcher was doesn’t tell you that this is a product worth having, then I don’t know what would.

I must add that my daughter also had a friend sleep over who had no clue what this pitcher was for and this friend of my daughter’s said she normally doesn’t drink water, but she drank water all day and night long from this pitcher while sleeping over at my house!

Overall, I am obviously extremely impressed with this water pitcher for it is one of the only pitchers I have received that the children had valuable feedback without even knowing that the water from the pitcher was indeed filtered better than straight from tap. The only con to this system is the reservoir, I do have three kids and five people total in the house which means I am often having to refill this pitcher. That is a small “con” compared to being able to encourage water drinkers in the family!
