What to do on Spring Break – Day 5 Mom Daughter Day, The Park

Today is day 5 of what to do on Spring Break in New Hampshire and this is what we did …. having no boys until 2pm on this particular day my daughter and I enjoyed breakfast out at Country Kitchen. What to do on Spring Break Day 4Of course, I can’t eat eggs but I went ahead and ordered a bagel with sausage and cheese on it. I ended up taking the egg out for fear it would make me sick. I love eggs so much but they don’t love me anymore. My daughter ordered a sampler plate, and honestly I wish I had to, it was yummy! She let me try a bite!

My daughter and I spent the morning having breakfast then ventured off to the local Pet and Aquarium center to have a look at the wonderful things the pet store offers. We saw fish, reptiles, birds and shown above is a pretend jelly fish decoration you can purchase for your tank. What a colorful experience and fun Mom daughter time.

What to do on Spring Break Day 4

After our fun filled Mom Daughter day it was time to pick up the boys at their Dads. Once we picked them up, we grabbed a snack for all three kids from my ex husband’s house for the kiddos and I took them to the park where they ran and ran and ran! It was such a beautiful day and I enjoyed seeing all three kids get along amazingly!

One part of our time at the park that really impressed me was that Aj now knows how to swing, all by himself! You see, Aj isn’t a risk taker and rarely will he swing on his own, he usually wants a tiny push here and there. This particular day he was proud of himself and showed off his swinging skills. I was beaming with happiness watching all three kids enjoy swinging together.

We ended our day with a relaxed moment of listening to my daughter practice her flute. I just love how well she is getting at playing her flute, it’s kind of neat that she chose to play flute because that is what I played for a couple years at school back in the day.

Another Spring Break day in New Hampshire came and went without much of any issues. I loved seeing all three kids love each other and be kind. This made another warm fuzzy day.

I keep Saying Let’s Rent a Camper

One thing we did not get to do this past Summer that my family has wanted to be able to do is stay a weekend somewhere, preferably camping out so maybe we can have our pug with us. I don’t like the idea of trying to find a place to put Jenny the pug up nor do I have anyone who can house sit the doggy. I know our kitty would be fine, as we can leave him ample water and food, but the dog? Well dogs are not self sufficient in ways of the kitty. With that being said, I joked often about renting a camper van type thing this past Summer so we could get out and enjoy the great outdoors. There is a website I use as a resource for campground sites all over the New England area but so far I prefer to stick with the York Beach, Maine area.

York Beach Maine

How much fun would it be for us to be able to enjoy this nice view for a full weekend? I think it would be great to rent a camper van and spend a weekend in complete loss of electronics, nothing but camping out, beach visits and watching the moon rise over the ocean. I would so love such a thing, but that didn’t happen. I was doing a bit of research into hiring a campervan for a family road trip and found this campervan hire site to be a great resource.

This school year we will be saving money while paying off behind due bills so that we can take a little family trip over the Summer of 2014. Maybe we can spend a whole week away somewhere, now that would be totally awesome. I will have to keep my eyes out on campervan rentals so that I know the current rental price. It makes sense, as a family, to rent a campervan, because in all reality it isn’t something we would have space to place on our lot at this time, with half an acre of land we really want to ensure our children can enjoy the full cleared lot.

The best campervan for our family would be something that had ample space because when we all get together there are seven of us total, two adults and five children between the ages of 13 and 5. Taking a family vacation, via a campervan, would mean that board games would be played, electronics would go out the window and we would be forced to play games together and get to know each other more in our blended family life. While I know how I would want to travel and sleep, one thing I try to do is read more Travel Blogs to find great destinations aside from my normal ones I usually see each year. Taking a campervan rental for a family vacation would be a wonderful way to build family togetherness and strength, at least that is my opinion on the matter.

Does your family go camping each year? How does your family enjoy that?

Tips for Getting Active on Your Family Road Trip

It’s finally time to dust off the flip flops and get preparations for your summer holiday underway. As the end of the school year approaches, families will be trying to decide on where to go and getting ready for their annual break with the kids. PassSmart’s guide is designed to help you plan an active family holiday, helping you make the most of your time away and keeping fit the fun way!

Road trip

A road trip can be the perfect way to spend your summer vacation. Not only does taking your own car give you the freedom of being able to go wherever you want to, but it’s also a lot cheaper than flying.

What’s also great about a road trip is that you can take more stuff to make your holiday an active one. If you take your bikes, for example, you’ll be able to stop off at certain places to explore on two wheels instead of four. The only downside to driving is that you’ll be the one trying to fit everything in the trunk!

Try something new

Many of us get stuck into the same routines when we go on holiday, sticking to the beach and avoiding any kind of physical activity whatsoever. Wherever you’re going, there’s bound to be a new activity to try or something you can do as a whole family, so why not go for it?

Do a bit of research before you leave into what activities are on offer, and try and decide on doing at least one of them, as a family. If you don’t fancy scaling the side of a mountain, why not try something like off-roading in a 4×4? Anything which you wouldn’t normally have the chance to do at home is a great way to spend a day, and the kids will love it!

Travel

Since you’ve got the luxury of your own car, it makes sense to visit multiple places on your trip. Why not plan your vacation around staying a few nights in different places to make the most out of your time off.

This may sound like an expensive option, but if you plan ahead you should be able to get good prices on accommodation. As you’re only treating your hotel/accommodation as your base, you can save money by choosing a basic option.

If you’ll be visiting cities, try to find out about parking options before you set off. The last thing you want to be doing is spending the day trying to find a parking space or having to walk for miles into the city. It might be a good idea to ditch the car if you’re traveling inner-city because public transport is often a much cheaper option.

Camping

If you’re planning on a more rural vacation, camping for a couple of nights is something which the kids will love, even if the idea doesn’t fill you with joy.

If the thought of a couple of days in a tent doesn’t fill you with fear, though, it can be one of the funnest, and – not to mention cheapest – ways to spend a few days of your holiday.

Finally, don’t forget to relax!

Just because you’re on an active holiday doesn’t mean you can’t take a few days out to relax. Set aside a few days at the end of the holiday to do whatever you want to do. Visit the beach or spend a couple of days poolside.

Wherever you go and whatever you decide to do, just make sure you don’t forget the camera!

School Vacation is Ending, Back to the Real World

I have had such a blast on school vacation week, but it’s time to get back to the real world of balancing mom and work. I had such a great time bringing my kids to the Montshire Museum of Science on Friday, we learned while having fun and I will be sure to share more pictures during the upcoming week.

Yes, that is my loves hanging outside before we went into the museum and is now my favorite picture of the happy munchkins together.

While school vacation puts a toll of how much we can all handle each other, I can honesty say that there really wasn’t too many challenges that arose in parenting and hanging out with my kids during the week. My youngest has been testing my patience lately and one day while in the pet store watching the turtles, the worker says to me “wow, you are a really patient mom”. I had to think because sometimes after a long day with my youngest I wonder if I am patient enough, so to have someone say that was a wonderful feeling.

The kids laughed, we played, we colored, we did two day trips and another couple of trips to the pet store just to watch the turtles mostly. We just had a wonderful week and even though I had a fantastic time, I am ready to get back into the normal schedule and routine of school and work. Since my ex husband got a new job, he is closer to our town, which means he can have our youngest longer. I will now have two days a week to work and three part days to work. I am excited to be able to increase my work load and hours now.

There have been so many positives from this past week to mention, but just let it be known, I had one amazing school vacation week with my kids, and when the boyfriend and his kids were around we had fun too. It’s just been one of those weeks to remind me I am truly blessed and should be grateful for what I have in my life because what I have in my life is love and happiness no matter what!

Did you all have school vacation this past week? If not, when do you or did you have it? What did you all do during school vacation?
