What to do on Spring Break – Day 5 Mom Daughter Day, The Park

Today is day 5 of what to do on Spring Break in New Hampshire and this is what we did …. having no boys until 2pm on this particular day my daughter and I enjoyed breakfast out at Country Kitchen. What to do on Spring Break Day 4Of course, I can’t eat eggs but I went ahead and ordered a bagel with sausage and cheese on it. I ended up taking the egg out for fear it would make me sick. I love eggs so much but they don’t love me anymore. My daughter ordered a sampler plate, and honestly I wish I had to, it was yummy! She let me try a bite!

My daughter and I spent the morning having breakfast then ventured off to the local Pet and Aquarium center to have a look at the wonderful things the pet store offers. We saw fish, reptiles, birds and shown above is a pretend jelly fish decoration you can purchase for your tank. What a colorful experience and fun Mom daughter time.

After our fun filled Mom Daughter day it was time to pick up the boys at their Dads. Once we picked them up, we grabbed a snack for all three kids from my ex husband’s house for the kiddos and I took them to the park where they ran and ran and ran! It was such a beautiful day and I enjoyed seeing all three kids get along amazingly!

One part of our time at the park that really impressed me was that Aj now knows how to swing, all by himself! You see, Aj isn’t a risk taker and rarely will he swing on his own, he usually wants a tiny push here and there. This particular day he was proud of himself and showed off his swinging skills. I was beaming with happiness watching all three kids enjoy swinging together.

We ended our day with a relaxed moment of listening to my daughter practice her flute. I just love how well she is getting at playing her flute, it’s kind of neat that she chose to play flute because that is what I played for a couple years at school back in the day.

Another Spring Break day in New Hampshire came and went without much of any issues. I loved seeing all three kids love each other and be kind. This made another warm fuzzy day.

What To Do On Spring Break – Day 3 Easter Sunday

Day three of Spring Break arrived and it was time for Easter. This was Easter Sunday. I had the boys until about 10am I do believe, as they wanted to spend Easter with their Mom and Dad, so we shared it. My daughter was happy to have a full day and overnight as well as another day with me without the boys! The kids woke up and proceeded to find their Easter Baskets…

Easter Sunday - Spring Break Day 3

The Easter Bunny was lazy this year, because he didn’t hide the baskets very well, which was a super bummer to the kids, but they got over it.

I even woke up to a surprise, it took me a while to see that I had a stuffed bunny and a rose sitting beside the coffee machine. Apparently I am not awake enough to notice things like that right away in the early morning, but eventually I noticed it and my heart melted.

Then it was time, the boys left with their Daddy for the day and overnight. My daughter, Lee and I headed out to get on the road and enjoy the day. First we stopped by my Aunt Robin’s grave. She passed away when I was five, but she is always a huge part of me. I think of her often and I used to go up at least once a year and snap a pic of Ki beside Robin’s grave. This was the first year in many we made it up, have to get back on tradition. Thankfully our visit prompted my Gram to go visit too, because she went up and gave Robin’s grave a cleaning. I didn’t have anything to clean it. Was sad to see it so dirty.

Next, we all ventured out to my Dad’s house to pick up the kids Easter gifts there. My daughter wouldn’t take a pic with me, so I snapped one with Lee. The farm is such a beautiful place and we even ended up with a surprise …

Miss Livy, my sister and Livy’s Daddy showed up too. We had a fun few hours just chilling out with the family this afternoon. Then we ventured off to head home for dinner and to relax the remainder of Easter Sunday away.

Another happy day was had. Outside, with family!

What To do on Spring Break – Day 2

This was Saturday, which was technically the first day of Spring Break, but I am counting it as Day 2. The kids had a blast playing up in the woods and outside on this fine Saturday before Easter Sunday.

What to do on Spring Break - Day 2 Easter Weekend

My oldest and youngest went outside first, it meant I couldn’t take a shower because it was a beautiful day and there was no time for Mama to shower. I just threw some clothes on and fixed my pigtail braids and ventured outside with them. They had fun being goofy, I called it a yoga lesson.

My middle child, Aj, ventured outside finally and he started to plan a game of soccer. We played a bit of soccer and monkey in the middle before the kids tired of it and Aj headed back inside. Aj isn’t an outdoor kid, he enjoys it in moments rather than for full days like my oldest and youngest. So I kept the door open and windows opened for the house so Aj could go back and forth.

My youngest is my little actor, shown above he is jamming out with his ukelele and later his sister and him actually put on a show singing the song Demons by Imagine Dragons. It was beautiful! On this rock, my daughter also found owl pellets and so we think there’s an owl living in our woods, I would have to agree, I hear this owl every night when I am sitting out on the deck after dark.

Since it was Easter weekend, I planned our normal egg hunt out. Filling plastic eggs with candy and change. Then the kids stayed inside so I could hide the eggs all over the yard. Aj hid a few too, because he never gets to hide them, he said. I allowed him to hide a few to feel special.

And then the kids grabbed their baskets and were ready for the hunt!

The kids searched high and they searched low. It took us a bit to find the last three eggs, and since I bought 30 plastic eggs they were good about dividing up the eggs so all three had 10 plastic eggs each. Then the trading started to happen, each kid started to trade money for jelly beans and jelly beans for malt balls. They had a blast, my youngest ended up with like no change and all candy just the way he likes it. Oh I think the youngest did keep a few quarters, you know, for the gumball machines!

There were no meltdowns. There were no issues and I received hugs from Aj quite frequently on this day, which is not something he normally does. Another beautiful day spent enjoying family.

Our Spring Break Fun Times Without Spending Money

We didn’t have much for extra cash and it’s a normal work week when Spring Break happens in April here in NH but we made the best of our week, even while going through a medication change with the five year old. Right before school vacation my nine and five year old made some crayons to bring to their classrooms…

It was fun making crayons and then our weekend came, the first weekend for vacation we headed to Disney on Ice on Saturday to have some fun watching the first Disney on Ice show any of us have ever seen. I shared pictures on Wordless Wednesday.

Most of our time was spent enjoying the great outdoors and walking around the pond trying to catch a glimpse of a salamander or frog. We did some baking, Ki on her Easy Bake oven and Mister K helped me bake muffins for snack time…

We tired Jenny out a bit with the three year old’s energy.

Then gave Jenny some love for she handled the energy very well.

Last but not least we spent more time outside and Aj attempted to ride his bike without training wheels.

Sunday evening we were able to find a turtle in our pond and we spent some time checking him out.

The Spring Break week was fun but it has come to an end! Aj didn’t master riding his bike without training wheels, but happy he wanted to try!

A healthy New Year’s Resolution I can keep

Guest post written by Joy Claiborne

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions based on health, sometimes I feel like I’ve exhausted all of the possible ones. I set a goal for myself in dresses sizes before we took the kids to the beach for spring break one year and that didn’t really work. Then, I also made one to exercise every day. That lasted for about two and a half weeks and some day I barely exercised at all before I gave up and took a shower. But this year I made a New Year’s resolution to take vitamins daily and try to get my daily requirements of calcium.

I knew that I wanted to improve my health in some way, but I decided that I didn’t want to set any drastic goals that I knew I wouldn’t end up keeping. So I browsed a bit online with my DIRECT TV INTERNET to come up with some ideas and decided on a daily supplement.

I think that the key to a faithful health resolution is to incorporate into your existing schedule to where it can be very flexible and it isn’t all that big of an adjustment. So I’m going to start taking vitamins every morning before I put in my contacts.
