What Mama Wanted But Didn’t Get

Christmas has come and gone, now is the time for cleaning the mess up and organizing our rooms as well as my office space. It is, after all, about to be a New Year. I need to work on tax preparations and get all of my business files in gear for tax purposes. I need to get the kids bedrooms organized, after a long winded argument over getting it done because you know they don’t just do it for the fun of it!

With that being said, here are some items that I need and/or want to help stay better organized this season …..

file cabinet

I really, really need a file cabinet badly! Right now I am thankful for the one I have – it’s a two drawer wooden one that my Mom let me keep because it’s falling apart and she really didn’t “need” it back when I was living at her home while she lived with her husband in his home. While I am thankful for the file cabinet I do have, it’s falling apart to the point I can’t really use it and access files the way I need to. I need a new file cabinet so that is the first item on my What Mama Wanted but Didn’t Get List.

personal computer

I really could use a personal computer for my office desk, why? Well because working from a laptop is a great secondary option, which I am totally grateful for, nothing beats working from a real personal computer setup on my desk that the children DO NOT ever touch. Sadly, the laptop is my MAIN business computer but it’s also the only thing the children can use for their electronic time and that worries me. If laptop dies, I am screwed … no personal computer really sucks and I hope to someday have one again soon! Mine died last year.

bill rack

A bill rack or letter rack would be perfect to have in my office space in master bedroom for many reasons; holding our current household bills, holding invoices for clients that are overdue or due later on. The bill rack could also hold the check payment receipts for later accounting purposes. All too often I am looking for a way to better serve my bills, letters and statements as well as accounting documents to be prepared all year round for household and business responsibilities. I like to be organized and on top of things. My Post-it brand letter holders work great for my PR letters but not for the whole kit and caboodle of documents I need to organize.

happy light

I certainly wanted and need a “happy light” for the NH winter Season. You see, last Winter in NH I had a really hard time keeping my emotions in check. Lack of sunlight really is starting to pay a toll on my spirits and I have heard great things from people who use happy lights all winter long. I need that natural sunlight all year round to keep my optimistic attitude on track and keep my happy. So last but not least, I wanted but did not receive, a happy light! With a happy light I would have stable moods in the winter season here in NH thus being more productive, organized and able to move forward in a positive direction without having down days!

What did you want for the holidays or a birthday that you didn’t get? I would love to hear in the comments what you wanted but didn’t get as well as what you wanted and did get!

One Year Ago Today….

One year ago today I met the love of my life. I met with Lee for coffee and we never spent another day apart since then, well maybe one day due to our children’s schedules but the point being is that we met off of Match.com and were such a perfect match that we never looked back.

In all honesty if I were to set a bullet point list of qualities that were important to me in a relationship as well as a life partner, Lee would fit every single one of them. We have an amazing capability to communicate, to show love to each other through all stresses and at the end of the night he never falls asleep without his arm on me.

Brandy Ellen Gets Engaged

Each day we wake up happy to be near each other, we don’t like being apart but we are not so out of our minds being apart that we can’t handle it. This week is living proof that we are two people, when put home together for a 12 day stretch, still don’t falter. No matter what you throw at us, we start swinging and always make it out on top. There are so many stresses going on in our world but that hasn’t kept our love from growing stronger each day.

When Lee comes up behind me to give me a quick hug or a quick kiss on the back of my neck while I am cooking our family dinner, I still get shivers. Goosebumps are a common occurrence when you put me with Lee, just the mere sight of him makes me so heart fluttering happy. Today, is one year and I am still just as smitten with him and him with me as our first day we met for coffee.

Engagement Ring

Never in a million years could I have thought I would have met someone who was indeed who his profile said he was, his appearance was what his profile picture showed him to be. Everything has been our most wonderful time of our lives and as we celebrate our one year anniversary today, we look down upon my left ring finger at the commitment Lee made to me and I made to him late Christmas night.

On Christmas night we went out to dinner, then walked around looking at the Christmas tree lights at the town common and then returned home to read this couples book. While reading this couples book we found that a lot of the tips and quotes that were inside of the book were ways we already think daily about each other, ways we already show each other our love and have for the past year. I don’t foresee that changing, why? Because if I only shared with you the extent of the challenges we have faced in the past year. It’s a long story, honestly, we may just write a book about it all someday. For now, they are our own family secrets so-to-speak that don’t need to be broadcasted, but let me just say this; Lee and I have experienced a level of stress that I personally have never, ever had to experience in such a mind boggling, jaw dropping way before. We never let these stresses affect our love, we cannot change outsider influences, we cannot change other people and we are determined to remember our love for each other at the end of every night – no matter what!

Engaged at 32

About 11pm on Christmas night, Lee got down on one knee and asked if I would do him the “monumental honor of becoming his wife”, there were tears, giggles because we both were so nervous and happiness. With a ring that is so pretty yet so simple. We now have committed to marrying each other in the future. We do not have a date set yet, we have the commitment and the intent to wed down, but now it’s all about planning what kind of wedding event we wish to have and then pick a date.

Right now, in all honesty, I am just enjoying the complete happiness that comes with being engaged and so is he. We are so blessed, both us as adults and our children, to have been able to experience the joining of two families with two adults who are completely, utterly in love with each other. Prior to our engagement, I had asked my daughter {because my son’s at ages 5 & 7 really have no real concept of “marriage”} what she thought about us getting hitched. Lee also asked his children what they thought about the idea of us getting married. With great happiness, all three of our older children were happy about the idea of us getting married. That was all we needed to know in order to move forward, while our children do not tell us what relationship we shall have or not, it is important that they play a key role in building our family, together, forever and always. The children are a huge part of our combined love together and we want them to know that we both love them all very, very much!

What Products Interest My Family

I have been really wracking my brain as to what type of products my family really “gets into” and what brands would be worth working with in this new year. In the past four years of blogging I never really pitched a whole lot of companies to work with them, I simply let people come to me and use my contact form to pitch me their product and/or services. The issue with just writing and accepting pitches from brands to me directly is that I do not really end up with pitches for products or brands that my family may truly use on a day to day basis or thrive on having in our lives.

Scholastic Books

As part of my mission in 2013 to have better content and more detailed as well as passionate product reviews, I want to start pitching brands and accepting product reviews from those who really strike it big with me. In order to really ensure I am having a passion behind every last detail for content and reviews written on this site, I have to start from the beginning; with a list of things/products/brands my family truly could or does currently benefit from.

My immediate family here consists of myself plus three children. I have a daughter who is 10 years old going on 30, and two sons who are 6 & 4.  We enjoy playing board games, Wii games that allow 2-4 players, playing hide n seek and imaginary play such as with pretend food in our pretend kitchen area, trains, trucks and so much more. On a more technical note, my youngest up to the oldest, including me, are able to fully enjoy the Kindle Fire, the laptop and the computer with ease. Each person in my home, even the 4 year old knows how to properly use electronics and can navigate a tablet as well as computer easily.

Saturday Play in Ice

We have a love of electronics, baking, toys, imaginary play items such as costumes, dress up and similar. My kids and I truly enjoy the outdoors in warmer weather but they do get out in Winter to slide and make snow men.  We love to hike, take nature trail walks and we all usually work together with household clean up too.

It’s so awesome that my children and I have a wide range of likes in our lives and I am happy that even the four year old can enjoy the things my ten year old does. Hopefully this year I can share more of our loved products we have here in home as well as any new ones that may come along in 2013.
