Miss Livy Spends Most of a Day with her Auny

Yes, I spelled that correctly, Auny. The name that my niece Livy has given me is Auny, not Auntie, not Tee Tee as she had once started to say. I am now Auny. And I love it!

One day I got a chance to take Livy for most of an afternoon back to my home so that her Mommy (my sister) could catch a break to clean house, relax and get whatever done she wanted to get done. Honestly, she should just sleep when she gets that time, but she had stuff to do and so I was very happy to test out taking Livy for a bit.

Babysitting Livy my Niece

I picked up Livy and went to get my daughter from her visit with her Dad. I then traveled home with Livy and my daughter before my son’s were coming home from their Dads. It was so adorable watching Livy spend quality time with her Auny and cousins. Livy is now about a year and a half, time has flown so quickly. Come January she will be two years old!

Jenny the Pug has finally learned to be calm around Livy, they spent some time hanging out a bit as shown above. Jenny loved following Livy around and giving her puppy kisses. Simply precious.

I love the photo of Ki with Livy next to her arm in arm. We really have a strong family bond around here and so happy Livy takes to that big time too! That was a fun day, and the separation anxiety my niece has, left her within moments of her waving buh bye to her Mommy. I remember those days of my baby crying until I was out of sight, then they were fine. Thankfully  my sis knows Livy is in great hands with someone she feels safe with and who adores and loves her to pieces so it is easier for my sis to allow Livy time with me. I must admit, I am so in love with being an Auny!!!!

Livy is a true miracle baby and a blessing to have in our world.

Spending Some Time with my Sweet Niece Livy

I am in love. Seriously in love. With my 13 month old niece, Livy, that is. Look at her adorable smiles, she was so happy that Auntie Quack Quack came to visit and babysit her while her Mama (my sister) went for an appointment.

Let me explain the short story behind why I am Auntie Quack Quack; when my daughter was a baby, quacking with my hands was a way I could calm her when out in public with me. I naturally gave it a try one day with Livy, who was a little upset and low and behold it worked! Since that day I have been deemed Auntie Quack Quack because my Quack Quack whether it be in person or over the phone makes Livy smile. I am trying hard to get Livy to say Auntie but she has only said it maybe twice, her preferred term for me is Quack Quack. Sigh.

This particular day, last Tuesday was such a joy! Livy smiled big for me the whole time and enjoys playing this “you can’t get me” game where she crawls away from you quickly after pushing towards you to tease you like “come and get me”. Livy has quite the personality and now that she is “on the go” it was not easy for me to get her to nap. In the past, a simple lullaby in Auntie’s arms would relax her to sleep, not so much this particular day. Livy wanted to run and explore and play with Auntie, okay not run but crawl quickly!

One of our favorite things to do is to read this Care Bear book, actually a hand me down from my home to Livy. I passed down a lot of the books we had accumulated after Livy was born so that Livy could experience a love of books just like my kiddos. It’s adorable that to this day Livy remembers our Care Bear book and she often grabs it, turns pages and smiles at me to read along while she “reads” page by page. She is simply precious!

My sister and I chat on the phone often but I don’t get to visit as often as I would like to because she is 45 minutes away and as I wrote the other day, I have my hands full with my seven year old son. I was told Livy is starting to take steps and standing up all confident, this picture above shows her cute face standing there and she stood there, while letting go of that toy forever. It was as if she was showing off her new skill to her Auntie. Later on, my Dad showed up after my sis returned home and Livy actually walked about 2 feet to me, stood at my legs, looked up and held her hands upwards in a “pick me up” way. I scooped her up all proud and happy. February 11, 2014 was the first time my niece walked to me!

I must admit, after years of realizing that my sister probably wouldn’t have a baby and I wouldn’t ever become an auntie, this experience has been a true blessing for my sister and myself. Being an Auntie has shown me how my sister felt about my first born child, she truly loved her in a way that you love your own child. I would do anything to ensure Livy is protected, and my sister. I love them dearly and never in a million years would I think I could love another baby the same exact way I love my own children I gave birth to. Family is such a blessing to have.

{Life as Auntie} A Night Babysitting Miss Olivia

If my sister had her way, she would be with her daughter 24/7 but she also knows the importance of finding a way to catch a break. As of late, my sister has had appointments and since I am the only one my niece knows beyond her parents; the babysitting is in my hands. I do not mind one bit.

Babysitting my Niece was a blast

I absolutely love my niece and since my “baby” is now five years old, I welcome any chance to take my niece for a few hours or even overnight. This particular evening we babysat Miss Olivia for about four hours. Sadly, Olivia had been woken up by accident when brought into the home and so in the above pictures she is still a bit uncertain of being away from her Mommy and Daddy. One thing about Olivia, that also calms my sister, is that Olivia calms quickly for me and seems to feel safe as well as secure in her Auntie’s arms while Auntie sings her a lullaby or two.

Cousins Playing Nicely

I was a little concerned having Olivia here during bedtime hours for a couple of reasons; I wasn’t sure if she would get comfortable with my fiance again or my daughter so that I could do the normal bedtime routine for my sons or not. I also was concerned about my “baby” because K-man really doesn’t like his Mama paying any attention to another baby. What I got was a lucky surprise! My son played with his baby girl cousin, gave her toys and even showed her around his bedroom. To boot, he fed her dinner at dinner time too. K-man was so proud of himself and had fun talking to Olivia and singing her a song while playing his ukelele, it was simply adorable!

The four hours or so that Olivia was here made our evening so wonderful! The night ended with Miss Olivia giggling and babbling at Jenny the Pug. I just adore this baby girl and was thankful that my sister knows me and trusts me enough to let go and allow this time for her daughter to gain a relationship with her Auntie and Cousins. I thank my sister for allowing me and trusting me to care for her child while she attended her meeting.

Happy First Birthday to my Niece Livy

Today my niece turns one year old, I cannot believe that one year ago today I was at the hospital with limited time waiting for Miss Olivia to come to this world. I sadly missed the arrival, and she ended up having to come via c-section but I did eventually get to meet her while she was at the hospital with her Mommy.

From that first day I fell in love. I held this little baby and felt a love I never thought one could feel except with their own child. Now I know what my sister felt that first time I made her an Auntie. It’s such a loving emotion.

Baby Olivia

Spending time around Olivia was and still is important, while they live about 40 minutes away from me, I want nothing more than to have a niece who loves & knows who her Auntie is. I had an amazing Auntie growing up and know how important that relationship can be, secondary to the child’s parents of course. I visited and continue to visit Olivia frequently, along with my children and fiance.

Ki and Baby Olivia

Miss Ki was so happy to finally have a cousin on her Mom’s side and it was a girl so that was even better. After all, Ki only has two younger brothers – no sisters so when Olivia came into this world she was so excited!

Baby Olivia and Mom

My sister and Olivia are shown above, I have enjoyed watching my sister go from just a sister to a sister who is a mother. The changes I have seen in my sister over the past year amaze me. There are no words to describe the love I have for both Olivia and my sister, it goes deep within my heart and soul.

Today … I say HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLIVIA, YOU ARE NOW ONE! And I also say CONGRATS TO MY SISTER, YOU ARE NOW A MOM TO A CURIOUS, SOON TO BE WALKING LITTLE GIRL!

My Past Two Visits with Olivia; Getting my Baby Fix #babies #auntie #family #love

I have not updated you all recently on the last two weekend visits I had with my sister and niece Olivia. Olivia is growing like a weed, so big she is and that was even more evident when she came with my sister to Aj’s soccer game last week. At the soccer field there is always these twin girls, who are completely adorable and tiny. These twin girls are always crawling around, curious about their world, and sometimes they are just standing in one place; at no time did I even think that these twin girls were older than my niece because of their size, however, they are 11 months old and my niece is 8 months old – big difference in baby months for sure!

One of the weekends I went over to my sisters is with all three of my children; the theme? Get cousins together day. The outcome? Get girl cousins together and let boy cousins run aimlessly through my sister’s home. Sounds about right. My sons are not too interested in their baby girl cousin just yet, maybe once she is moving around they will be more interested in her but for now she is just a mini person who sits, babbles and cries so they don’t really have too much curiosity about her yet. As we continue to visit with my sister and Olivia each week, Olivia is opening up more and recognizing me whereas before during each time I stopped in she would have to take more time to be comfortable with me; she is nervous with “new” people.

I brought baby Olivia a gift; an Elmo that talks and is bigger than her. At first she was quite bothered by this large stuffed Elmo but in time during that visit she warmed up to him and with my boyfriend speaking Elmo talk using the doll – she soon was “best friends” with her Elmo doll. One thing that made me happy and is shown in the far left image above; Olivia loves my home made apple sauce! The past couple of times I went over for a visit I brought my sis and Olivia some of my home made apple sauce to enjoy. They love it! I love that Olivia is showing happiness in a lot more pictures and look to the far right – my sister and her baby Olivia, isn’t that the most happy looking Mama? I love my sister tons.

Normally, you may recall, most of the pictures I share of Olivia are inside. Right? I am not sure why because the girl loves being outdoors, so one visit we had with sis and Olivia we decided to take a stroll outside. Olivia let me hold her for a long time and we checked out the Fall leaves in New Hampshire while her Mama went to the store real quick. That marks the first time my sister left Olivia with me; I’m excited to be taking these baby steps towards being able to have my niece overnight in the future!

Olivia enjoyed the leaves and while I had to keep her from eating most of them, she was happy. It was a wonderful time visiting with my sister and niece again; I sure do love family. I love these two girls dearly – can you tell?!
