Architectural Landscapes in your Back Garden

Almost every homeowner dreams of having a architectural landscape in their back garden. Landscape design is now more popular than ever, with some very exciting trends to look forward to this year. It doesn’t matter whether you are attempting to do it yourself or leave it to the professionals; it’s about bringing out the best of what your garden has to offer. Here we look at the top landscaping trends you should consider to make you back garden stand out this year.

Eco-Friendly Designs

Now that the economy is finally getting back on track, people are ready to start investing in their gardens again, with annual growth expecting to grow over the next few years. Homeowners want to invest in their outdoor spaces with high quality and eco-friendly products. One of the top trends in landscape design in Denver is using trees to create natural shade for your home, in order to reduce energy costs and produce fresh air. So, not only is it about making your back garden beautiful, but it’s also about finding ways to make nature work for you.

Plight of the Bees

Everyone has heard about the threats facing the bee population and people are really taking this into account when considering landscape design. More and more homeowners have been making sure they include plenty of plants, trees and flowers that are rich in pollen to create a haven the bees can enjoy.

Let There Be Light

This year is all about creating a dramatic effect in your backyard, through lighting. Some people are opting for natural flames, with the use of torches or an outdoor fireplace. These striking features will really set your garden apart, while maintaining a cozy feel. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can try out the LED lighting trend. Using LED light will help to lower running costs and newer designs can even be controlled via apps.

Low Maintenance

You may dream of an architectural landscape, but maintaining your beautiful new garden can be hard work, especially with all the changes in weather. People are opting for low-maintenance plants and flowers that are better able to tolerate dramatic changes in weather. This will make it easier to maintain your garden, keeping costs low.

Edible Gardens

We are experiencing a move away from turf grass, with vegetables, herbs and fruit coming in to replace it. Not only will these help to feed your family, again helping you to save money, but they can have an ornamental function as well. Instead of veggies being planted in neat little rows, we are seeing vegetable patched set up in squares. Planting them close together means that water will evaporate slower and the moisture will hold for longer in the soil.

As you can see, this year landscape design is all about creating an eco-friendly environment that can help you cut down on costs while also helping the environment. It’s about making the most of your back garden, while still giving yourself a beautiful space you can go to and sit back and relax.

Scotts Turf Builder

So you all want a nice green lawn right? Well recently I shared information about Scotts Turf Builder and for me, a Mom, I wanted to share some reasons why I think this is a great product.

For starters, it will help me have an awesome lawn and for second it will be safe for my barefoot, grass rolling children. You see in the video below my children are lawn children, they LOVE to roll around. I don’t want a green lawn at the downfall of the safety for my children.

Since I am also a work at home Mom, I want more for my money, and with Scotts Turf Builder it tiny which means it covers more area per square inch! A green lawn, safe for my kids and more coverage? They had me at hello. This year I am using this product and can’t wait to share more information about how well it works.

I am happy so far with Scotts Turf Builder and hope that I can share more information about how well this works in the future with you all!

I was speaking with my Dad yesterday about Scotts Turf Builder and he had it all in his head, he is ready to do a spot with this product and a post without product on his lawn just to document the progress. I hope we can do this experiment because my Dad loves things like that!

My Daughter’s Adorable Idea

I was waiting for the bus with my daughter the other morning when she informs me that she had a great idea! The idea?

I want to do yard work & I told Daddy that I want to do this at Nana’s. I will do yard work, like raking lawns for neighbors and anyone who drives by for money. All of the money I get I will send to victims of hurricanes and tornadoes.

I first said to her that this is a really sweet idea and that she is super caring, but reminded her that she is only 8 years old and she did say her Dad said this wasn’t a good idea. A girl at age 8 shouldn’t be doing such work he had told her. I have no problems with her raking lawns for money to give to bad weather victims if it is for family and close friends, but when I asked her how she was to get people interested in hiring her, she says:

I don’t know. I was thinking I could put out a sign and get people to stop. I will then schedule them in so I can have a full schedule of yard raking.

I told her that she best not be giving out her cell phone number to people and that she is only 8 years old, she is not to be standing by the road with a sign talking to strangers. I also informed her that even though we live in a rural, small town type area and where her Nana lives is even smaller that it is not safe for her to do this. Strangers can be mean, there are a lot of mean, evil people in this world and I don’t wish for her to do this.

Of course I got the eye roll and back turned to me, I got her to look back at me and explained that this is a really nice idea, but we can work on it at a different angle. If she truly is interested in helping others, she could draw pictures, I will scan them into the computer and we can sell them at $1 a piece. I will create a page for her, monitor the money coming in and in turn give her a check that she can give to victims.

She liked this idea.

I loved this idea!

So … the only question now is … how do we find out who to send money to for this, I am thinking Alabama would be a great place to start offering donations to if we can get people to buy her “art work” as she is a great artists for just 8 years old.

Would you buy “art” from an 8 year old with a mission for just $1?

Happy Friday My Friends

Friday is here and the weekend awaits us! Not too long from now your day will have ended and I wonder what you have planned for the weekend? My children are gone for the weekend but I do have a Bridging Ceremony for my daughter’s end of year Girl Scouts on Saturday. I do plan to try to get to Loudon to watch Nascar race. I am not normally one to sit at home and watch the races but to see it live, I am so totally game for that experience if someone is going with me of course!

Another thing I plan to do this weekend, should the rain  hold up is finally get all of my lawn mowed. Two to three hours I will be out there pushing my lawn mower around while I attempt to get all of the lawn mowed and not screech like a little girl about all the snakes that love to come towards me when I am mowing my side lawn. I don’t like snakes much at all especially when the sneak up on me. Mice and wild snakes are the only two things that can make me scream like a little girl, I jump up and run fast every time those type of things scare me!

I know that one thing I need to do this weekend is catch up on sleep after two weeks of running around with the munchkins and trying to be sure they are having a fun Summer vacation. My oldest and I  have been spending Tuesday and Thursday mornings together while the boys go with their Dad. It is fun mother/daughter time for sure!

I don’t know about you but every time Friday hits I am ready to lay back and relax without work, blog writing, or responsibilities. Luckily this weekend I will be able to do all of that, relax and recoup with no responsibilities!
