Giveway to Help with the Holiday Headaches from Excedrin Extra Strength

This post is sponsored by Excedrin Extra Strength.

The holiday season hit about one day after Halloween, companies took no haste in advertising for your holiday shopping desires. Getting a head start on grabbing your children’s attention; I want this, I want that, for every single toy commercial out there. It seems commercials are in high mode for hitting those on our holiday shopping gift list already. Excedrin Extra Strength understands that holidays can bring on headaches for many families, between the cost of holiday gift giving to the expenses incurred when traveling to see family, it’s no wonder you may be left feeling a bit down. That is why today I get to share with you some awesome news, a giveaway for a chance to win a $1o0 American Express Gift Card to alleviate some of your holiday headache.

Just the smells of the holiday season can kick a headache into full gear, I know the candle smells and that holiday smell of the season can really get my nose going and then my head pounding. The best ways to avoid headaches during the holiday season provided by Dr. Keri Peterson, M.D. are:

  • Stick to your regular routine.  Eating, sleeping and exercising as you do the rest of the year can help reduce the chances of getting a headache/migraine. *
  • Manage your time and plan ahead. Coordinate plans and responsibilities in advance with relatives and friends, compose set menus when hosting a party and try to purchase gifts early so you’re not rushing at the last minute*
  • Stay in ventilated spaces. As you browse through the mall, watch out for those scented candles or perfume if you are sensitive to smells**
  • Eat and drink in moderation. Eat, drink, and be merry, but try not to consume sweets or alcoholic beverages in excess, as they could trigger headaches **

I do get headaches around the holiday season but it’s not due to extra stress for shopping, as I am not a huge shopper. You see, I believe in the holidays being more about cherishing the extra time with your family, making memories and enjoying each other. I don’t raise my children to think that gifts are what it’s all about, it’s not a mindset I want instilled into the children. With that being said, I do get some presents for my children and Santa delivers a bit too, it’s just not overkill is all.

What does get my head pounding during this time of year?? Those smelly holiday scents in the stores and at people’s homes. Cinnamon, apple, pumpkin spice and all of those traditional holiday scents just get my head pounding! Sure the scents smell amazing at first and in fact a bit yummy but the issue is that long term exposure to such scents just gives my head an ache. I try my best to stay away from super smelly places but it’s not easy this time of year!

This school year my youngest will head off to Kindergarten, leaving me home alone to work for six hours a day five days a week without Mama duties interrupting. While I am extremely happy about having all of my kids in school full time finally, I am a tad bit sad that I will no longer have a child home to need me during the daytime hours. My children are growing up and with that comes a different set of concerns that have been and will continue to cause some headaches.

Each year I get a list of school supplies my children will need and optional items to purchase for my child as they enter into a new grade. While the supply list is somewhat small for each child, when you have more than one child it does not matter how small that list is, it’s still a lot of items combined together that cost more than you wish to spend alongside the cost of clothing and other supplies that the children need. I tend to worry a bit when it gets down right close to the start of school because I am such a last minute shopper with school supplies. My own procrastination is usually for good reason and is usually due to which weekend falls upon me to have the kids before school starts so that they can come along.

According to a recent study by the makers of Excedrin, I can see I am not alone in many of my mixed emotions of having all of my kids in school this Fall as well as the worries that can cause headaches:

  • 69% of parents, who have at least one child in school this coming year, say they are excited for their child’s first day of school.  That doesn’t change the fact that 44% of parents also say they expect to get a headache during the back to school season.
  • More than one-third of parents cite getting themselves (41%) and their children (43%) back on a schedule at the top of the list of things that might cause their headaches during the back to school season.
  • More than one-third (35%) of parents say shopping for school supplies might give them a headache.  With all the pencils, folders and notebooks, parents should remember to put Excedrin® on their back to school shopping list.
  • A large majority of parents (85%) think their schools are in need of new or upgraded supplies such as pencils and paper and computers or software and gym/sporting equipment. And that’s because with every purchase of Excedrin®, parents can enter for a chance to win $10,000 for their child’s school.

Summer Fun (1)

After a Summer filled with day trips and swimming galore, I can totally see how it will be difficult to get my three kiddos back into the swing of sports season {soccer & Fall cheer leading} as well as get my youngest used to having a school schedule to being with.  Summer is coming to an end so really it is time to start focusing on a multitude of things; school supplies, schedule/routine changes, sports registrations and above all to ensure my “baby” is prepared knowing what he is about to embark on in this chapter of his life.

While I am offering a giveaway today for all of my readers to have a chance to enter to win, Excedrin has a sweepstakes right now going on over at their Facebook Page. The sweepstakes is called “Help Your School Excel with Excedrin” sweepstakes and you can click over to Excedrin’s Facebook Page to learn more about the rules as well as to enter for a chance to win $10,000 for your child’s school.

Staying Cool, Calm and Headache Free This Summer and a Fun Giveaway

The month is June, the time is near Summer and with that comes the wonderful school break season. The kids will all be home from school wanting Mama to keep them occupied, entertained and well fed. You know the season, one in which can be total chaos of having children who thrived on the demands school requested of them all school year into the season of a carefree Summer being home with  Mama full time. With this time of year comes headaches, not only induced by the dilemma of keeping kids occupied, on a schedule and well fed but the heat. The Summer heat can be quite exhausting in itself leaving a Mom with a headache the size of an over sized pizza pie or larger.

Are you familiar with the Summer time headaches? I wonder if you can feel the pain about to come this Summer?

Your Summer doesn’t have to be full of headaches and juggling the children to find how to properly entertain them in a way the school system can. You can have relief and with that comes some ideas I put together to avoid headache-ville in combination with some tips from Kathy Kaehler, Fitness Expert:

  • Avoid Dehydration – Keep your skin moisturized with a lotion, I personally do this each day after shaving my legs. Keep your body up with fluids that actually work with your body to hydrate it as opposed to beverages such as caffeine, soda and alcohol.
  • Have  a Flexible Workout Routine – Daily exercise increases your happiness, seriously, it does. Those little hormones inside of your mind that work to keep your happy, are what increase when you exercise. During hot Summer months try to move your exercise routine around during the cooler parts of the day, such as in the morning.
  • Create a Poster Board with Daily Schedule – Both parents and children can thrive on having a routine set forth for the Summer. Create a simple poster board that outlines the times each day that meals and snack will be served as well as other outings so that you can avoid the Summer headaches from antsy children.
  • Avoid Light - Sunshine shining down is a great feeling, but too much of it can create a headache stemming from your eyes adjusting to such light. I prefer to wear sunglasses all year round but if you do not wear them all year round, be sure to wear sunglasses and/or a baseball cap or visor to help avoid eye contact with the sun and to keep your body cooler.
  • Sometimes Headache Medicine Is just What you Need – I can’t always avoid my headaches, especially during the summer; so when I get one, I take Excedrin® Extra Strength to help get me get back on track.

 Did you Know that ….

  • Excedrin® is a trusted brand with more than 50 years’ experience providing effective headache relief.
  • Excedrin® Extra Strength is a combination pain reliever – acetaminophen/aspirin/caffeine – that provides temporary relief of headaches.  Use only as directed.

Monday Has Arrived Please Insert Coffee IV

Nothing like a good cup of CoffeeI recall never liking coffee, at all. I loved coffee flavored things, coffee ice cream was my all time favorite, but then it happened – I started working in New London, NH as an administrative assistant with a high paced, multi-tasking job. I needed coffee. I started drinking coffee. I became addicted to coffee.

I now get a headache if I try to go without coffee. I seriously do. The thing is, I can not even do decaffeinated coffee either because I still get that headache. I recall that there was this one week where my head was pounding, I could not break this migraine – at all. Then I noticed something, one night I was preparing my coffee machine so that I could simply wake up and hit “brew” the next morning, my coffee grinds had a big green stripe on the can… what was it you ask? It was decaffeinated coffee – so wrong!

I put myself into a migraine central week by purchasing the wrong coffee, it had zero caffeine and my brain was on fire from lack of caffeine. Never again will I be so absent minded as to not look at the label when purchasing a coffee brand I am not used to purchasing.

So here it is, Monday .. let’s get this week started with my caffeinated coffee in the form of an IV…. Happy Monday everyone!
