What To Make With The Bread Ends from HomeMade Uncrustables #recipe #foodie

Cheesy Garlic Bread Sticks Recipe #foodie

Recently I shared a blog post citing that you can make homemade uncrustables way cheaper than by purchasing the store boxed brand Uncrustables. Click here to see that recipe. Today I share with you what I made during my food experiment evening over the weekend using the bread ends leftover from the homemade uncrustables I made for the week.

Cheesy Garlic Bread Sticks

Ingredients:

  • Greased 13 x 9 pan with bread ends leftover from uncrustables creations covering the length of pan
  • Garlic Powder
  • Garlic Salt
  • Approx 1 1/2 cups of your favorite flavor shredded cheese
  • Butter/margarine

How to Make:

  1.  Make sure the 13 x 9 pan is greased well because you won’t want to have any of the excess cheese baked onto the pan and you will want to have an easier time pulling up the sticks once cooked fully.
  2. Preheat over to 400 F degrees.
  3. Bread one side of the bread ends as you spread butter upon them, place one by one into the pan until you have a single layer of bread ends that fill the pan.
  4. Open the Garlic Powder and sprinkle evenly across the bread ends. Repeat this step with Garlic Salt.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the bread, it’s okay if you get some on the greased pan.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for about 10 minutes, check and maybe bake another 5 minutes. Basically bake until the bread is somewhat crunchy and the cheese is fully melted.
  7. Let cool down, serve and Enjoy!

{Mama and Son Time} Making Pizza with my Boys

I used to have a tradition that every Friday we would make pizza or at least have pizza for dinner. I really miss this tradition, but while money is tight for now with the new home purchase, we will attempt to do our best to make it a once a month event or maybe twice a month for now.

Five year Old Making Pizza

I purchased pizza crust from Market Basket, pizza sauce, shredded cheese and some pepperoni slices earlier in the day. I set up the crusts on pan as well as sauce and cheese in two bowls so that the boys could have space to create their own pizzas; one cheese pizza and one pepperoni pizza.

Mother and Sons Making Pizzas

I had to encourage my seven year old son to do more on his own, lately his confidence has been going downhill a bit but that’s just simply due to medication changes. I worked to encourage him to put his own cheese and pepperoni on so he could be proud of his creation.

Mother Helping Son with Pizza

We had a great time together. The boys were enjoying the fact that they could make their own dinner.

Son Proud of his Pizza

K-man was super proud of his “cheesiest ever pizza” creation.

Seven Year old Son Proud of his Pizza

Aj was super proud of his “pepperoni-est pizza ever” creation.

We popped the pizzas in the oven for about ten minutes…

And then we ate, together as a family.

What Do you Mean You Don’t Like That?

My six year old sonEvery evening I pack up a nice cold lunch for my oldest and middle child, usually they get some form of deli meat & cheese sandwich, plus two sides and a capri sun for drink. Each day I pack their various sides, sometimes it’s raisins and crackers other times it’s applesauce and crackers.  What I pack with my kids drink and sandwich really is a matter of what I have available in the house. That is when I find out just how little I know my kids, some days.

For instance, last I knew my daughter and my middle child both enjoyed eating raisins. It is news to me that my six year old son no longer likes raisins and he proceeds to tell me with frustration each time I happen to pack a couple mini boxes of raisins in his lunchbox. He forgives me for my absent mindedness. Thank Goodness.

Emo tween looking hairstyleNext, we move onto breakfast. I wake up and cook my kids breakfast 5 out of the 7 days of the week, usually. With that being said I know that my daughter and six year old son enjoy runny eggs; guess it’s called over easy. My youngest enjoys scrambled eggs only. That is what I thought, anyways. Come to find out my six year old son no longer likes runny eggs because he now likes for his breakfast of toast with fried egg and cheese on it to be cut in half; a mess so to speak with the runny fried egg. I get it. But wish he would let me know before I start cooking.

All of a sudden my daughter doesn’t like cheese on her egg and toast sandwich. Every single time I cook her a fried egg and place it ever so gently on a piece of toast with a piece of American cheese on top, thinking I am all “awesome Mama”, she gets upset with me citing that now I ruined her breakfast because 1) she does not like cheese on her breakfast sandwich and 2) the cheese has now melted all over her egg and toast which apparently ruins the meal?!

Clean feet childThere are various moments where my mind plays tricks on me while raising my three kids, it’s as if one day I know them all too well and then before I even blink, they are changing their minds about preferences, clothing styles and even hair styles. It’s so hard to keep up and that is why I am thankful that I have humor. I firmly believe that if you can not laugh at yourself then you got an issue, the fact that I can enjoy a good laugh about my absent minded nature shows the kids that I am a real human being who messes up but moves on from it with a giggle.

Life is way too short but man I wish my memory wasn’t short.

Ground Hamburg and Cheese Grinders Recipe #recipe #foodie

The other day I wanted to find something to do with the pound of hamburg I had thawed out in the fridge, normally one would think of cheeseburgers or maybe making a form of chop suey (I call it goulash) out of it … but I wanted something different and I was craving a steak and cheese grinder …. that is when this recipe idea came to me and it was a HUGE hit in my house with the kiddos {well the 2 kiddos that actually TRY new foods} ….

Cheap Steak n Cheese Grinder RecipeIngredients:

  • 1 lb ground hamburg
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Garlic Powder {teaspoon or so for flavor}
  • Shredded cheese {any kind you prefer will do}
  • Sandwich rolls or Grinder Rolls
  • Optional additions; other seasonings and/or chopped onions.

Make Your Ground Hamburg and Cheese Grinder

Ground the one pound of hamburg in a skillet or frying pan on stove over low heat. Make sure the meat is browned all of the way, no pink meat.

As the meat browns, sprinkle about a teaspoon of garlic powder {or other seasonings} to add flavor to your meat.

Drain the browned ground hamburg.  Keep brown hamburg in pan.

Sprinkle about 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top of the browned hamburg while in the skillet or frying pan. Cover or simply let sit on hot burner of stove until cheese is melted.

Prepare the grinder or sandwich rolls, use a spatula to place meat into each roll in an even fashion. Add ketchup or mustard, whatever condiments you wish.

Serve with fries, chips, or a salad.

Servings: Approximately 6 sandwich rolls.
