Then She Had Text

The birthday party weekend was amazing but we certainly had some issues with the birthday girl letting life get to her head, she is the princess after all.

Ki bday party 4The weekend started off with late Friday night giving Ki her first present from Justin and I.  After much consideration and weighing the pros and cons we decided to get her a cell phone. Normally I would say an eight year old doesn’t need a cell phone, and I still believe that, however, in our home we do not have a house phone and she has a father who hasn’t been living with us since she was four months old. Her father and I have always shared custody. Ki is close to her father as she is with us, and we knew she needed a way to contact her father when she felt the need and as she gets older she will need a phone to talk to her friends as well as other family members.

LG ComsosI had my sister babysit my sons Friday afternoon so I could go out shopping for a present. My original thought was an alarm clock with a CD player, however, after thinking harder I realized she needs a house phone of some sort. My first though was a prepaid cell phone, after all I used Tracfone for two years with much success before having my Verizon Wireless account. Do you realize that prepaid phones and cards are way more expensive than a normal cell phone and plan? I was able to find out that adding Ki to my plan would only cost me $10 with a free phone versus going the prepaid route with many upfront fees as well as a huge monthly bill in order to keep her number the same. I ended up with the LG Cosmos from Verizon Wireless as shown in picture above.

Ki bday party 3Ah yes, the famous eye roll .. that is what I got most of the weekend. When we first gave Ki her cell phone we didn’t tell her it was for her. I sent a text to the phone that said:

Happy Birthday my sweet princess! I hope u love this present and keep it safe! This is a BIG deal and u need 2 keep this cell safe … It is YOURS! I love u!

Justin grabbed the cell phone and called Ki out to the kitchen where we played it off like Justin got a new phone. Of course Ki was having the whole “why do I want to see your new cell phone” attitude going on but we finally got her to open it up and read the text message! Her face was amazing, I did record it but the video is rather dark. I may upload it later. The girl wouldn’t let me touch it. The cell phone is not considered a cell phone for an eight year old … we consider it a house phone. The reason being? She isn’t allowed to carry it around with her, it certainly doesn’t go to school and she doesn’t take it to her Dad’s either. Occasionally I will let her take it out with us on a family ride but overall that cell phone is to stay inside our home at all times and when it’s bedtime I have it in my room shut off.

Ki bday party 2Sunday we headed over to the Grampa’s house in Vermont where the kids had a blast playing. The weather was almost perfect! The kids learned how to play horse shoes and enjoyed playing together. We also found a leaf pile my Dad had blown over with the lawn mower. The kids enjoyed that, it was Baby K’s first time jumping in leaves!

Ki bday party 1The birthday weekend was amazing and ended about 8pm this evening when the kids all went to sleep after a soccer game Ki had. Its been a long weekend, but we enjoyed it to the best of our ability!

The Curious Twos and Gimme This Now

The twos, lovely year when a child is testing his limits and figuring out who he is as an individual in the family. That would be my sweet Baby K, he is two and he will tell you that. Just a few things this boy says are “go away“, “whats up“, “now“, “me two” and “I do it“. The boy wants to do everything on his own and he wants to be his own little person.

Baby K often is found telling people to go away when they show up at the house, my sister was victim of that. The other night he hopped in the front seat of my car when I was trying to get him out of it and told me to go home. If you leave the main door to the house open and he wants to go outside you know that boy is heading out the door! Hence the biggest reason my main door is always shut and double locked!

I have found that I have mixed emotions about this age, I am excited to see Baby K doing his own thing and trying to become his own person inside a family of five but I am also nervous that he may get really hurt when I head to the bathroom to pee or have my back turned for a second. I know all too well that just a second of turning away from a child at this age the worse can happen and that scares me, which makes me dislike this age a bit. I am constantly worrying and end up bringing him into the bathroom with me as I know the boy will get into some kind of trouble while I am gone from the living area.

Baby K’s latest thing is asking for something by saying “I want {insert random thing here} NOW”, yes he even puts emphasis on the now word. I am correcting him every time with the word please in place of now and phrasing the demand as a question such as “May I have {insert random thing here} please” and he will usually reply with the word of whatever he wants followed by please. The deal is that if you do not teach the kids manners and common courtesy from day one it will be harder to teach them in later years. I am paying for this with AJ as he had so many issues growing up that now at age four we are just barely starting to get him to understand concepts he should have learned years ago.

I am excited to be able to work with a child who isn’t going through all the mood issues AJ did at Baby K’s age and ear problems, etc etc. This time of Baby K’s life is reminding me of the years with my daughter with a tad bit more excitement and adventure, due to the fact that Baby K is a real boy, full of energy and curiosity!

I am looking forward to watching Baby K and his brother interact now that Baby K is two and AJ is four. AJ has been doing really good and I am proud that I only have to deal, a majority of the time, with Baby K issues rather than two boys who are constantly on the battle field with me.

Great Holiday Gift: Teacup Piggies Review

Oh yes we have it, Princess, a teacup piggy member born in December. This little piggy doesn’t go to the market, she rocks our house hiding wherever she can, but usually in the arms of my daughter or youngest son. I even caught her playing with Baby K as seen below in my YouTube video.

Teacup Piggies ROCK

Teacup Piggies are six inch miniature versions of real Teacup Pigs. They speak over 20 phrases and each piggy comes with its very own teacup, accessories, and birth certificate. Fabulous wardrobes and playsets sold separately.

Late last year, miniature pigs called teacup pigs became the new must-have pet. There are now hundreds of websites dedicated to these adorable pigs thanks to celebrity owners such as Jessica Simpson, Carrie Underwood, David and Victoria Beckham, Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, and Peter Facinelli of Twilight fame. They’ve been featured on The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America, and The Today Show.
