Thinking About Editorial Calendar and Blogging World in 2013

The year 2013 is just around the corner and with the New Year comes people celebrating all night long til that breath taking ball in Times Square, NYC drops with the countdown to midnight. At midnight you are to get a kiss from that love one, at least so I hear. With the New Year on the forefront of everyone’s mind so is the discussion of New Year’s resolutions; if you have been following me for the four years I have been online, then you will know that I do not make resolutions; what I do each New Year is revisit my goals to see where I stand with them and I set some new ones.

Happily Blended NH Mom Blogger Goals

Even though my main stream of income is being a NH Mom Blogger, and it may seem like you just sit and write; which I really do, there are goals to be set in place. I was actually talking to my Dad about some of my business goals this year, for example it’s time for me to step up a notch with my brand, I also have to take some time to setup an editorial calendar for the year, maybe use the Blogging Planner as a way to help me set guidelines so that I can be better with the search engine traffic during the various holidays and national celebrations such as Breast Cancer Awareness month and others.

So as I move into my New Year 2013 as a single mom of three, I wonder what is it that I have completed and had set for goals in 2012 and what is it that I need to do in 2013 to make my 2013 start with a BANG? I am making a list here to see if I can come back at end of 2013 and have reached or surpassed these goals:

  • Have a steady brand contract for each month, whether same one or new each month, that pays for my time to spread the news about their brand/product or service.
  • Start writing more passionately about things that are lessons learned in the life of raising three kids and being single.
  • Share more Blogging Support and Work at Home Support articles with tips, tricks and advice on how others can be successful working from home whether for part time or full time income.
  • Get at least one more ad network to work with me via CPM.
  • Increase monthly income by $400 per month using ad networks, paid content and brand ambassadorships.

In order to meet and/or surpass my goals, I promise to:

  • Apply and/or accept programs that are a true fit for what I am passionate about instead of taking whatever is offered to me.
  • Focus on pitching brands/products that I can write about with passion, thus creating a better content supply here on site and my other blog.
  • Plan ahead, maybe with the Blogging Planner, so that each month is planned ahead of time with some open slots as advertisers or guest bloggers may need to be fit in periodically.
  • Write more guests post on other blogs that are a good fit. Find new Blogs to comment on and read regularly.

Overall, I think know this New Year 2013 is going to start with a BANG because there is no other way for me, the kids need a roof over their heads, heat in their home, clothes on their bodies and a Mom who is making money so she doesn’t sink into a state of depression not being able to support her kiddos. This New Year 2013 in blogging as  a NH Mom Blogger on my blogs is going to ROCK like no other year before.

What Do you DO For Work

When I first started this blogging venture, it wasn’t something I thought I would really make money enough to live on but I was willing to give it a try and so far it has been paying off both emotionally and financially. Trying to answer that old question “what do you DO for work?” is difficult for me though, you see I was taught that I need to have some elevator pitch but honestly I write and do so much on this blog and write about various other things on my other blog that I don’t think a 15 second pitch is really going to sell anyone on what I do nor explain fully what it is I can offer others.

In all honestly, I feel all I offer is an honest, personal, sometimes silly, usually positive story about what’s going on in my life but when you tell a perfect stranger this they give you the head tilt as if “why would anyone want to read about YOU”, because you know I am nothing special – just another human being who happens to be a NH Mom Blogger.

Usually if someone asks what it is I do for work, using the terms Marketing, Social Media Consultant or Freelance Writer ring a bell with them faster than a NH Mom Blogger. The term NH Mom Blogger sits well with me and it’s a term I much enjoy using because after all that is who I am and what I have become in the past four years. It is time, however, to step up my business a notch and push further and become more than I am now. I am excited for the new year and hopefully this New Year I nail SEO and get a major boost in traffic for something other than my awesome giveaways I host.

So how do you answer this question about what you DO for work?

Happy New Year from this NH Mom Blogger to you …..

Unilever Spreads – Switch it Up in the Kitchen Giveaway #G2KHoliday

I was challenged to switch it up this holiday season with Unilever Spreads instead of using my normal butter or margarine options when baking some yummy treats. My son wanted to make some molasses cookies for his Christmas Party and the kids wanted chocolate chip cookies for snack at home, so we headed out to get I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter! from our local Walmart.

Unilever Spreads Holiday Challenge

The daughter had a great time using I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! for her chocolate chip cookie baking the other night before Christmas arrived. It was easier to use than our sticks of margarine we have used previously and appeared more smooth than options we had tried in past with our baking attempts.

Making Molasses Cookies

Let’s see, so the next time we baked before Christmas was the molasses cookies for my six year old’s class party the day before school break. They came out so soft and delicious, whereas in past I have had a hard time getting cookies to be the right texture of softness while still being fully cooked.

Thought About it, Then Thought Twice

NH Mom Blogger & Her DadThe kids were here on Christmas Eve for our annual pizza and presents with my Dad and Step Mom. You wouldn’t believe how freaking happy I was to get new hand towels, my six year old didn’t get why I was so happy over new hand towels, it’s an adult thing I suppose. I also got this really cool candle that changes colors and stuff, I will be sharing it online soon I am sure. Maybe on my YouTube Channel, who knows.

Grampa spending Christmas Eve with Grandkids

Christmas Eve was fun, all three kids returned by 5pm from their Dads and I invited my ex hubs to stay for pizza because he will forever be a part of this family. It helps that I think of my ex husband as a great friend, so of course he could stay! Just an FYI – the ex husband is my two sons Dad. Pizza was enjoyed and the Grampa bought hot dog pizza special ordered from my daughter’s favorite local pizza joint, he scored some major Grampa points with that choice!

Presents were opened. Kids were happy. I was happy. Then it was time to depart, so my Dad and Step mom ventured off back to VT & the ex hubs heading back to his place, while I worked on calming the children down to get to bed. After all, Mrs. Claus had some presents to wrap and Santa duties to tend to. Once the kids were all snuggled up in their beds and fast asleep, Santa dropped off stocking stuffers and presents under the tree then went to sleep.

Christmas MorningChristmas started at 5 in the morning, no joke. I had prepared my coffee so that all I would have to do was hit on in the morning but those kids were way too quick to get downstairs to their stockings that I had zero time to venture to the kitchen. I survived the stocking stuffer opening then paused em all so I could snag me some energy  coffee. Then I went back downstairs as the kids tore through all of the presents and next thing I know all presents have been opened.

It was time to get the kids dressed and ready for Dads. I was dropping the oldest to her Dads house then the ex was coming to pick up the boys here about 8 am. My Christmas morning went by so fast and as I hugged the kids goodbye I thought to myself, I should probably clean this tornado of a mess house. Then I thought twice; why is it my duty to clean up after my tornado of kids? So yes, today my boys shall return to their Mama and I will be enlisting them to help clean up the basement, get the decorations off of the tree so I can carry it upstairs and throw it outside.

From there, we will probably have some hot cocoa and enjoy some random conversations with the new toys they got. Tomorrow the daughter returns and I will be having her clean up her tornado of a bedroom.

The aftermath of Christmas … joy!
