We had a great time here at the Happily Blended household celebrating Labor Day with a little Lion King get together! We had another family come over with three kids so that we could have snacks, activity books handed out, craft time and just overall fun together in celebration of The Lion King 3D release to theaters September 16th and on Blu-ray 3D & Blu-ray Hi-Def Combo Pack on October 4th.
I am not usually the most creative mother in the world, but this time I decided I was going to take my time and make this Lion King Celebration a hit! I created celery trees, ants on a log and blueberry caterpillars glued together with honey. I also did a bowl of baby carrots with a blueberry honey caterpillar on the side of the bowl, hurry eat up your carrots or the caterpillar will.
Ants on a log are pretty simple, it’s peanut butter in celery with a few raisins on top. We also had “bug” trail mix with various nuts and raisins mixed together. I used the tops of the celery to create trees and they were “glued” to the plate with peanut butter.
We then decided to do the Hakuna Matata harp craft that was sent with the home party kit. The harp is a really simple craft idea you can do at home with your children:
What You Need:
- Rubber bands
- scissors & glue
- Construction paper & crayons for decorating
- Shoe box or hard cardboard box similar in size to shoebox
How to Create the Harp:
Take a shoebox or other cardboard box and have your child decorate and cut construction paper to fit around the outside of the box. This is what their harp will be viewed as from others. Then you can wrap rubber bands around the box to create a harp that they can strum along to their favorite songs.
Get together with friends and have your own Hakuna Matata harp party! Enjoy fun times together. More pictures found on Happily Blended’s Facebook Page & a video of my son playing the harp to come soon!
Disclosure: I received a home party kit and compensation to cover costs of the party from PR, however, all opinions and fun certainly are 100% that of my own!
