The Age Of Questions

I guess my son AJ has finally hit that age where all the questions you don’t have a simple answer for come up. AJ started by noticing that he is growing hair on his legs! AJ was so exited that he pulled up his pant leg and wanted me to feel it, his face was so lit up with excitement and a sense of pride that he is no becoming a “big boy” that I found myself giggling. This coming from a boy who has had such troubles with hyperactivity, listening problems and a delay in speech due to major ear infections! I am very proud at how far AJ has come along and each day he grows to be so much smarter, brighter and nicer to his family and friends!

Yesterday I believe it was, AJ walked in when I was getting out of the shower and wanted to ask questions about my body parts. Yes Yes .. the day has come where I have to explain why I have a different pee pee than him and why we have hair on our arms and eyebrows, etc etc. I don’t remember ever having these questions from my daughter, the only question I recall her asking was if her boobs were going to be as big as mine when she was grown up, my response? “Well sweetheart, I certainly hope not!” That was an easy question with a simple answer.

Now AJ is wondering why he has something under his pee pee and I explained those are his balls and then realized that may not be the right answer since now he won’t keep his hands of out his diaper! He also found out that he has a hole in his bum, I will not go into details there! Lately it has been one adventure after another filled with comical realizations from a three and a half year old who is ever so curious about his body and the world around him!

Question for Thought: What was the most odd question your child asked you when they were growing up? How did you proceed to answer it?

I remember those awkward questions when they discover that boys and girls are physically different. Now my younger son asks me complex difficult questions like “why does God make some kids that are born with disabilities?” They’re not embarrassing questions like the body part ones, but they sure are much harder to answer.

The most funny question my then 4 year old asked me was, “Mommy what are you putting in your butt?” He walked in on me inserting a tampon. How embarassing!!! I can’t remember how I answered now but it was a difficult question. LOL

Thankfully I have not reached that stage yet. My daughter is only 15 months, but I probably would have rolled laughing if I had been there to witness your son.

    He sounds so cute!

Well, my son asked why I had hair “down there.” That was a little awkward.

I think the most embarrassing thing Elijah has done so far was a total accident. Elijah has a tenancy to want to grab himself down there when I am changing him. (I swear he has pulled that thing clear up to his neck! lol) I try to sidetrack him so he doesn’t do it, but I don’t want to just flat out yell at him for it. I mean it IS his own body and I don’t want him thinking it’s always not okay. Especially with starting to potty train. Well anyway I was changing Elijah at Dave’s mothers house (who are VERY conservative people) and as I remove his diaper he reaches down, cups his stuff and stays DICKA DICKA DICKA! Dave’s mother turned bright red and gasped in shock. Looking at me like I was the devil and stormed out of the room….

She must have missed the memo that when Elijah says TICKLE it comes out as dicka! LOL! I was SSSSOO embarrassed that she would think he would know the word she thought he was saying to describe his privates. I was also SSSOOO embarrased Elijah choose THAT diaper change to decided to tickle himself in the privates! LOL!

After I laughed, washed both mine and Elijah’s hands, I explained what happened to Dave so he could work some damage control. lol.

The other thing he does recently is grab my boobs through my shirt and yell boobs! It really hurts he grabs so hard! The weird thing is that since Elijah was unable to breast feed he hasn’t seen me without a shirt since he was a few days old. I am always very careful to be covered when around him so I have no idea how he knows what my breast are called! All I can figure is that Dave grabbed me or that I complained about my bra or something. It’s amazing how easily kids can pick up things!
