New Year’s Eve Is Coming

As we near the New Year I am wondering how many of you celebrate New Years Eve? There are so many ways people celebrate and I was curious if you have a tradition or do something new each year?

I used to party at my place, have a few drinks with a few friends over, or go out to a bar but ever since becoming a Mom I rarely go out on New Year’s Eve. Back when I was single I would have a few people over to have drinks and spend the night. I hate drinking and driving and would rather give up my bed to someone for a place to sleep while I sleep on the floor than have them leave a place after drinking any amount of alcohol. New Year’s Eve scares me, I worry about those who go out that evening, after all many are drinking and many need to get home.

In my small town I don’t even think we have a taxi service and if we do it must be pretty small because in the 28 years I have lived here, I haven’t ever heard of it! So New Year’s Eve I will spend snuggled up with my kids, letting the oldest stay up late with me to watch the ball drop. We have fun counting down to midnight while eating popcorn and drinking fruit punch together! It’s nice, and I may even have a drink of wine or something but overall I don’t usually drink too much unless there is another adult home to tend to the kids should something happen. My husband isn’t much of a drinker, so usually he will lay back on drinking and let me have a few.

I love watching New Year’s Eve on ABC in Times Square, NY but the last couple of years I got sad seeing Dick Clark, man he is getting old! I wonder if he will do it this year, I could have sworn it was his last year in 2008, but who knows! Well whatever your family does on New Years Eve I hope you stay safe, keep warm and are sharing this special evening with someone you love dearly, whether it’s your children, your spouse, or someone you are dating, enjoy the evening and please promise me that you won’t drink and drive!

Make it a Happy Day!

I think we are going to a friends’ for New Year’s while my mom takes the girls. We rarely go out on New Year’s anymore – we just hang out at someone’s house. Your New Year’s Eve sounds nice. Enjoy!

We never go out anymore, yet I’m looking forward to going out when the kids are older. Even if it’s just for a couple of drinks and dinner. But, for now, we’ll enjoy dinner at home, a glass of wine and Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest. You know how bad we are?? We usually celebrate the ball dropping on the East Coast, even though we’re in the Central Time zone! haha!! I’m from there, so celebrating an hour later just seems wrong!
