Did you know that over 80% of childcare centers serving low income families lack age appropriate books? A recent study also showed that the ratio of books per child in middle income neighborhoods is 13 to 1, while low income is 1 age appropriate book per 300 children. It’s a sad truth and the Cheerios family of cereals along with First Book and Jon Scieszka, author of the popular “Trucktown” series and other children’s books, have joined together to deliver 100,000 books to community-based programs serving children in need.
Here is how you can help! Simply visit www.FirstBook.org/Scieszka and test your knowledge with your child and test your combined knowledge of children’s books by answering some trivia questions related to “Trucktown” and other great children’s books.
For every trivia question answered correctly, you can cast one vote for the state you would like to receive books. The five states receiving the most votes will get 20,000 books each, for a total of 100,000 books.
This is such an amazing way to have some educational fun online with your child while helping your state in need get books they so deserve for the children! I have always been an avid book reader and have shared my love of books with my three children. All three of my children love having the books they own, and I couldn’t imagine not being able to read a book to my child due to income restrictions, so please help Cheerios family of cereals along with First Book and Jon Scieszka out and help place age appropriate books into a child’s hand today!

I think North Carolina should get the books because we’re …what … something like 49th … in education? Lots of our schools don’t even have text books, so what are the chances that the kids will ever be encouraged to read?
I picked California because we have a huge poplulation!

I vote North Carolina because I have personally experienced the need felt here.
In Illinois we are one of the states with the lowest school funding. The libraries offer what they can in schools but many times it is up to the teachers to provide age appropriate books. Having these books from Cheerios would be an awesome addition to our schools! thanks for the giveaway!
I picked Michigan because we have been hit so hard economically; we never actually made it out of the last recession.
I live in Texas and we have so many children who live below the poverty line and could benefit from it!

I think Virginia should because the sothern part I leave in isn’t a very rich town, and doesn’t have a lot of funds to help children learn to read.

I live in Missouri and the St. Louis city public school system could really use these books.
So many programs have been cut in my state, and education was the first. We could really use some books. Thanks

I think my state should be chosen as our state generally leads in illiteracy.
Our state has been hit hard by the loss of industrial jobs. We had many auto plants, and steel mills that have had to close or downsize. It would be a big help to our state. My husband works for a school corporation that is having to drastically downsize due to cost constraints, and I’m sure they, as well as other schools, could use the books.

Tennessee has a lot of poverty, and alot of the schools don’t really provide that many books, nor do the libraries in my area!
I think my state should be one of the 5 states who will get 20,000 books because it has bad public education.
