I often refer to my husband as my soul mate, and as silly as this term used to sound to me, he truly is just that – my soul mate! We had known each other for a long time, and had mutual friends but had never actually spoken a word to each other. One day he sent a friend request on MySpace and we started talking through that site, which eventually led to talking on the phone for HOURS on end.  Eventually we started going out on dates for dinner, I went to watch him play in his small band, and we met up to watch the Discovery Channel together at his apartment. {we both enjoy watching this channel} We finally realized we were falling in love with each other.

Within just six months of dating we knew we were going to take a step forward and have him move into my house with me.  After he moved in it only took us a few months to know we wanted to get married. We had very little money and could barely pay our bills, but we KNEW we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together and take those vows to be husband and wife… and we did.

Our wedding was planned by us in just under three months, it was a small ceremony in our backyard with close family and friends, around 20-30 people total. My daughter {his step daughter} was our flower girl & ring bearer! Our son was too young at this time to be involved in the ceremony but was there stroller and all.

Since we had planned our wedding on such short notice and didn’t have much money to spend, we actually never had a true “engagement” which means no engagement ring. Although this didn’t bother us at the time, this past year I started seeing others with a diamond ring above their wedding band and found myself saddened … I wanted one. Although I know we are already married and we do love each other, part of me does miss that I never had an engagement nor a diamond ring, but the other part says “don’t be so materialistic”. Maybe it’s a girl thing. I feel after all the long hours my husband works, all the tests of financial hardships, emotional up and downs with two pregnancies in two years that  he longs to place a diamond ring on my finger.
