Many people through out the blogosphere are talking about how busy they are with working at home, and are trying so hard to make time for family and other events in their life. They are struggling to keep a steady schedule that allows flexibility but also allows work to be done. I am finding it’s hard to be an entrepreneur especially since I am a work-a-holic. If you give me something to do I will get it done and I have a habit of working non stop until the project is complete.

Over working and over scheduling yourself is easy to do, but when you are an entrepreneur it’s YOUR FAULT. No one else is making you create this situation. I fear many moms and dads who work at home are over working themselves and losing focus of why they wanted to work at home in the first place; to have more time for family. I see the work at home parents allowing their dream home business to consume their lives and family time, myself included.

I am here to lend some advice to those who are in a situation of being over worked and over scheduled. I know you are in business to make money, however, if you were working from home as a way to create more time for family and working every waking moment of the day, you are not sticking to your ultimate goal. Here are some tips to creating a successful work at home schedule while allowing for time with family:

1. Set up a business plan document, this can be a short one, long one, whatever works best for the type of planning person YOU are.
2. Create numerous forms of income from your business such as advertising, pay per click and pay per impression ads.
3. Set “business hours” – whether you want to work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm or weekends only – set business hours and STICK TO THEM.
4. Have a logo created and USE THEM for letters to school, family & friends, use them on envelopes, business cards, and anywhere else you can think of.

Once you have all of the above set in place, utilize it to the best of your advantage. Ensure to set yourself on a strict habit of opening your office daily at the time designated, close on time at end of business day and shut down your computer if you must. This way you have no distractions, ONLY check your email if you NEED to, there are many services out there that can send you a text on your phone for urgent emails or messages. Utilize every program and equipment you can to help you be more efficient during your office hours.

If you have young children at home it would be a great idea to enlist some friends or family to come over and watch them.
