Being a WAHM is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done..and the hardest. If you are a WAHM then you are probably nodding your head in agreement. You know how it is…it is really hard to separate work-work from home-work. If you are a WAHM like me with multiple entrepreneurial projects, blogs, etc., then you really know that it can be tough to maintain consistency…and your sanity! Unfortunately, there is not an exact science to the daily work/life balance. But never fear, I have a few of my own tips to share that you may find helpful.
Before you do anything, it is important to understand you individual work style. Are you a morning person or do you prefer to burn the midnight oil? What time of the day are you most productive? What time of day do you run out of steam? Do you need special lighting, a special chair or other creature comforts? Once you know what your work style is, you can craft a suitable productivity plan. I am most productive in the morning so I try to do the “heavy” priority stuff before noon and the “lighter” less important stuff after lunch. I further dissect my schedule into “days”. Since I have many irons in the fire…I (try to) assign an “iron” to a day. For example, I have “Marketing Monday” where I focus on updating social networks with announcements, writing press releases, getting in touch with potential show guests, etc. Monday is also usually my weekly scheduling day where I plan out my coaching schedule, my personal schedule, and my family schedule. Tuesdays are usually focused on blogging (reading and writing). Wednesdays are writing days…articles and manuscripts. Thursdays are for Coaching (mostly because all of my clients happened to pick that day) and Fridays are kind of a free for all…catching up on anything that fell by the wayside. Now mind you, life happens…it does not always go this perfectly but having a blueprint or a foundation…or even just an idea for what I want to accomplish really helps.
The greatest thing about being a WAHM is there are no rules…you make them up as you go along. Sure, we all have taken and given some advice about how to do it successfully, but in the end it’s best to do what is best for you!

Great ideas! I need to get a little more organized! It is hard to balance everything!

I love Christie! She is one of my clients.
And great ideas Brandy! You are really doing great! I am really impressed. I love all of your ideas. I also try to organize my days, but often wind up NOT doing what I planned or DOING what I didn’t plan. LOL
Definitely good to have a foundation. I have been working really hard on focusing more on my family which has been my biggest challenge as a WAHM. It is so hard to balance both work & family under the same roof.
Thanks for posting on such a wonderful subject. Have a great weekend!

Glad you all like them! Not perfect but hey, it works…what’s perfect anyway? Just as long as it is perfect for you!

This is such an important topic for moms that are juggling so much! I also find that having great tools at your fingertips helps so much in balancing work/life. Sometimes, I’m half way to meet a partner or client for a coffee meeting and realize I forgot some documents. Having access to my home computer (where all of my spreadsheets sleep) from ANYWHERE has been a tremendous time saver and stress reliever. I just pull out my lappie and access those files remotely. Whew!
Love Chatterbox Christie! Thanks for sharing her with us.

Absolutely braking the rules is what it is all about. you won’t get noticed if your doing the exact same thing as so and so down the street. So finding how you work best not only will make it more enjoyable but I definately agree it will make you more successful too.
